Overview

The Cancelas/Singh Laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to study hematopoietic stem cell biology and blood formation in health and disease. Our research spans signal transduction, mitochondrial biology, stem cell aging, inflammation, bone marrow regeneration, clonal hematopoiesis, and interactions between hematopoietic cells and the bone marrow microenvironment.

The Cancelas/Singh Laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to study hematopoietic stem cell biology and blood formation in health and disease. Our research spans signal transduction, mitochondrial biology, stem cell aging, inflammation, bone marrow regeneration, clonal hematopoiesis, and interactions between hematopoietic cells and the bone marrow microenvironment.

We seek a creative and collaborative scientist with a doctoral degree in biology or a related discipline, completed within the past two years. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in hematopoiesis and stem cell research, demonstrated scientific productivity, and a record of first-author publication. Applicants with experience in hematopoiesis, mouse genetics, flow cytometry, mitochondrial biology, advanced imaging, and/or bioinformatics are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, laboratory staff, and bioinformaticians. Under the mentorship of Drs. Cancelas and Singh, the candidate will:

• Design and conduct experiments addressing fundamental mechanisms of hematopoietic cell function.
• Perform functional and molecular studies using primary murine and human hematopoietic tissues.
• Apply cellular, molecular, genetic, metabolic, imaging, and computational approaches to investigate hematopoietic biology.
• Develop and use ex vivo and in vivo models of normal and malignant hematopoiesis.
• Analyze, interpret, and communicate complex experimental data.
• Maintain complete experimental records and accurate, organized, and reproducible research data.
• Collaborate effectively with experimental, computational, and clinical investigators across multiple institutions.
• Present findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
• Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, research reports, and grant applications.
• Participate actively in the intellectual and collaborative environment of the laboratory and institution.

Qualifications

• PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, immunology, hematology, cancer biology, or a related field.
• Doctoral degree received within the past two years.
• Strong interest in hematopoietic stem cell biology, blood formation, and/or bone marrow microenvironment research.
• Demonstrated record of scientific productivity, including first-author publication.
• Prior experience handling mice and conducting in vivo experiments.
• Experience with several of the following methods:
  • PCR and other molecular biology techniques
  • Molecular cloning
  • Viral transduction and gene editing
  • Immunoblotting
  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Colony-forming assays
  • Ex vivo and in vivo disease modeling
  • Immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence imaging
  • Multicolor flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting
  • Next-generation sequencing library preparation
• Excellent analytical, organizational, oral communication, and scientific writing skills.
• Ability to conduct both self-directed and mentored research.
• Strong initiative, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to scientific rigor and reproducibility.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team.
• Ability to prioritize activities, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
• Strong research-data management and recordkeeping practices.

Candidates with the following experience will be preferred:

• Experience in hematopoiesis, stem cell biology, mouse genetics, mitochondrial biology, inflammation, aging, or cancer biology.
• Experience with advanced fluorescence or live-cell imaging.
• Experience analyzing transcriptomic, genomic, proteomic, metabolomic, or other high-dimensional datasets.
• Familiarity with bioinformatic and statistical analysis using R, Python, or related platforms.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

$72,000.00 - $76,385.00
