Lab Assistant

The primary role of a Lab Assistant is to process laboratory samples, predominantly blood, and work with other laboratory employees to catalog patient specimens such as blood, urine, or tissue for analysis. Lab professionals play a critical role in diagnosis and treatment based on the samples received.

Responsibilities

• Receive and triage all specimens for clinical testing.
• Manage clinical information within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) database.
• Perform internal audits of clinical charts.
• Collaborate with various departments to ensure testing accuracy.
• Pull urine or other specimens for analysis and aliquot them at required volumes for accurate testing.
• Store specimens in refrigerated or freezer storage, spending extensive time in walk-in units.
• Verify specimens for testing in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure.
• Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Skills

• Proven attention to accuracy and deadlines.
• Ability to work well independently and within a team.
• 0-2 years of experience in a similar role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• AS or BS degree in biological sciences preferred.
• Comfortable working in a freezer and handling bodily fluids.
• Detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
• Experience with labeling, aliquoting, laboratory data entry, and specimen collection.

Work Environment

The position is based in a laboratory environment, working primarily during the third shift from 10 PM to 6:30 AM. The lab team consists of six members on this shift. Staff must dress accordingly due to time spent in refrigerated or freezer storage units. The role involves handling bodily fluids, and adherence to safety protocols is essential. This position is an opportunity to work within a large diagnostics company.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
