Location: Downers Grove, IL
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Schedule: Hybrid - 3 days in office

Salary:

• 5-10 years of experience: $85K-$115K
• 10-15 years of experience: $90K-$122K
• 20+ years of experience: $100K-$155K

About the Opportunity

Sterling Engineering is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer in Downers Grove, IL. This is a hybrid opportunity with employees working in the office three days per week. The ideal candidate will have 6-20+ years of structural engineering experience supporting refinery, chemical, or heavy industrial facilities.

Job Duties

• Collect and prepare project data/information and perform detailed engineering calculations.
• Perform basic engineering designs for review and approval by senior department team members.
• Serve as Project Lead for select single-discipline projects, including estimating work hours, developing scopes of work, making staffing recommendations, and checking drawings.
• Assist with field work, installation checks, and problem-solving activities.
• Collaborate with internal departments, project teams, and external suppliers to obtain required project information.
• Manage project scope, address scope and work changes, and adjust project deliverables as needed.
• Complete project work within established budgets and schedules.
• Develop creative engineering solutions to meet client needs.
• Present project information to internal and external client audiences.
• Maintain active membership in professional organizations and participate in technical seminars and courses to support continued technical and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• 6-20+ years of experience in structural design for refinery, chemical, or heavy industrial facilities.
• Structural Engineer license preferred.
• EIT Certification preferred.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Ability to learn and work with Revit and BIM integration.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Excellent multitasking and organizational abilities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain stationary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Ability to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, and perform repetitive hand/wrist/finger motions.
• Ability to use up-close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and adjust focus.
• Office environment is generally free from adverse environmental conditions.
• May occasionally be exposed to adverse conditions at client sites, including climbing ladders/stairs, extreme temperatures, and poor air quality.
• Client sites may have moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection may be required and must be used when provided.
• Occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites may be required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence and maintain auto insurance coverage.
