Western National is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team! The individual in this role will have the opportunity to develop a book of business by writing and retaining commercial lines accounts through assigned agencies.
Responsibilities and opportunities of this role include:
- Building and maintaining strong agency relationships.
- Managing an agency territory to achieve established growth and profit goals.
- Analyzing the operations and exposures of different types of risks.
- Assessing risks and exposures on new and existing business to identify opportunities to maximize assigned territory loss ratio and growth objectives.
- Executing policies within established authority level and eligible risks.
- Applying basic knowledge of coverage/forms/symbols/endorsements per line of business.
- Applying basic knowledge of rating.
- Writing new business as defined by annual goals determined by the department.
- Applying knowledge to help solve problems of relatively limited scope and complexity.
- Consistently acting according to our customer experience standards.
Must-have qualifications for a candidate include:
- Demonstrated time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to exercise sound business judgement.
- Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Demonstrated intermediate organizational and prioritization skills with ability to accomplish multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated understanding of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- One or more years of experience or exposure to underwriting concepts preferred.
Compensation overview:
The targeted hiring range for this role is $59,000 - $82,900, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate, as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
