Radiology Technician

Duties:
Under direction of the Radiology Supervisor, assist in performance of complex radiology examinations involving use of special techniques and/or equipment. Take routine radiographs for use in medical and surgical diagnosis and treatment. Must have capability to perform work assignments effectively without direct supervision.
• Documents all information on patient's images, consents, and other medical records.
• Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner. Verifies informed consent.
• Applies the principles of patient safety during all aspects of radiology procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
• Assists licensed independent practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiography procedures.
• Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Prepares specially equipped rooms for scheduled examinations, usually involving surgical procedures; practices sterile techniques as necessary to prevent cross-contamination.
• Leads patients to dressing rooms. Gives directions before examination.
• Moves patients from gurney/wheelchair to examination table.
• Applies principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize radiation exposure for patient, self, and others.
• Provides proper protection to patients according to prescribed safety standards, exercising personal safety precautions; shields and positions patients as required.
• Positions patients on X-ray table and immobilization devices as required; assists with fluoroscopic unit; maintains adequate records of procedures.
• Selects proper technical factors on equipment; sets radiographic technique and selects proper timing for exposure sequence on programmer.
• Selects and uses proper immobilization and supportive devices; selects proper film, machine position and exposure procedures.
• Performs procedures requiring fluoroscopy, prepares and administers chemical mixtures for patients for examination.
• Reviews images for proper identification and quality; works in the control area to process radiographs as required.
• Maintains clean and orderly condition equipment and work area.
• Uses portable radiology equipment.
• Provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid to patients while in the department.
• Dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of newborn, infant, toddler, child adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient ranging up to 100+ years of age."
Skills:
"• Two (2) years of experience required.
• Must possess and maintain a current certification as a Radiologic Technologist and Certified Fluoroscopy permit from the State of California Department of Health Services.
• Must possess and maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Must possess and maintain a current American Heart Association Responder or Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.
• Must have knowledge of modern radiology equipment and techniques; human anatomy and physiology; occupational and safety precautions for radiologic work; and acute care hospital procedures; effective verbal and written communication skills and computer skills.
• Must have ability to administer emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; maintain records and files; follow instructions; deal tactfully and professionally with patients, physicians, and staff; Maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.
• Must maintain all health requirements designated by Center.
Schedule Notes:
(2) Varied shifts: 8 hour shifts for Days and Evenings. There may be an occasional grave yard shift. Experience in trauma, Portables, Fluoroscopy and Surgery is required.
