Phlebotomist - Per Diem

Position Summary Under the direction of the Marcus Principal Investigators and Project Directors, perform daily phlebotomy activities of the laboratory accurately and on time. Maintain a safe and professional environment. Perform clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures. Maintain required records and documentation. Demonstrate organizational commitment and promote a positive image to participants, health care providers, and the public in general. Core Competencies Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements. Excellent phlebotomy skills, including geriatric venipuncture. Good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to manage participant concerns professionally. Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high‑volume setting. Ability to perform data entry. Position Responsibilities Fundamental expectations: Greet participants appropriately. Treat all participants in a courteous manner. Ensure all field specimens are collected accurately and on time. Collect specimens according to established procedures. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by testing procedures. Maintain required records and paperwork. Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures (e.g., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual). Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy and sample logs. Adhere to departmental and company grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies, appearing neat and clean at all times. Report on time to work, following attendance guidelines. Communicate appropriately with participants, coworkers, and health care providers. Communicate all unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate manager or supervisor for resolution. Remain polite and courteous at all times. Keep work area neat and clean. Dispose of biohazard containers when scheduled. Help with inventories and other tasks as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Medical terminology knowledge helpful. Phlebotomy certification preferred. Three years of phlebotomy experience inclusive of geriatric venipuncture and capillary collections preferred. Keyboard/data entry competency. Customer service experience in a service environment.
