RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of Assistant Principal Relating to Community of Faith:
- support and implement the philosophy and mission of Catholic education and SAOPCS
- support the formal religious education program of the school and the primary purpose of Catholic education, leading all souls to a vital relationship with Christ
- respect cultural diversity of the school and work to reduce biases, stereotyping, and acts of harassment, bullying, etc. by building a culture of discipleship at all levels
- give evidence of lived Gospel values
- serve as a positive Christian role model; catechize the faith to others
- demonstrate the importance of prayer and worship through active participation in planning and celebrating prayer, liturgy, and faith-sharing activities
- speak, act and instruct students in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Church on issues of faith and morals
- integrate religious attitudes and values into life inside and outside the school
- model attitude of service planning/participating in service projects with students
- demonstrate mercy, compassion, & justice in dealing with members of the community
- demonstrate respect for all human beings and forms of life
- actively participate in nurturing the growth of Catholic faith within the community
- demonstrate willingness to plan, encourage and participate in community building activities (religious, social and educational)
- welcome all members to the community with a Christ-like spirit of acceptance
- demonstrate a spirit of redemption and reconciliation when participating in problem solving situations affecting the school community
- assist in development of school calendars, schedules, campus improvement plans goals, handbooks, etc.
- assist in delegating duties as appropriate for effective staff utilization
- assist with supervision and in providing for the general welfare of students during the school day, before and after school, and during school activities
- oversee Math/Science Academic PLC
- attend meetings of the school's governing bodies and parent organizations as required
- promote effective use of volunteers
- implement and oversee the utilization of Friendzy Guidance SEL Program
- plan and implement Red Ribbon Week, Career Day, Community Helpers Day and Healthy Dolphin Day
- assist with interviewing and selection of new staff members
- oversee the performance of substitute teachers in assigned classrooms
- assist in planning and implementation of staff in-services, meetings, etc.
- assist in school compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- provide communication and support to parents as needed
- serve as a member of the School Leadership Team
- responsible for students as assigned by the principal including monitoring absences tardies, progress reports, report cards, individual progress, summer school, etc.
- work with scheduler to properly place students in classes
- meet regularly with teams for PLCs and NWEA Data Meetings
- oversee planning of all overnight 5th - 8th grade school field trips
- attend 8th grade Washington, D.C. field trip
- oversee 8th grade Graduation
- implement the school's discipline program
- assist with admission, placement, and orientation of new students
- provide support for teachers and staff members in parent conferences, etc.
- observe employee performance, conduct evaluations as assigned by the Principal
- assist teachers in their professional growth
- communicate mission and philosophy to school and parish community
- maintain positive school climate
- develop and maintain good student, teacher, parent, and community relations
- work cooperatively with principal, school staff, parish staff, and Archdiocese
- promote positive self-image and self-discipline in students
- give consideration to and take appropriate action to parental comments and concerns
- communicate the directives of the Principal, Pastor, and school's governing bodies to the students, staff, and community
- assist Principal with printed and electronic communications such as memos, newsletters, social media, etc. as needed
- notify the Principal or Pastor immediately of any emergency affecting the safety or welfare of students or staff
- keep abreast of developments in the education field
- fulfill requirements for professional growth set by the Texas Catholic Conference Department of Education, Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, and SAOP
- participate in scheduled in-service opportunities and attend meetings called by the Principal and/or Superintendent
- display emotional stability, sensitivity, appropriate humor, flexibility, good judgment, and a positive attitude strengthening respect for the education profession and SAOP
- dress professionally and in accordance with Archdiocesan and school guidelines
- use oral and written English correctly
- report any knowledge or suspicion of child abuse as required by law
- attend faculty meetings, staff committee meetings, in-services, etc.
- follow all handbook policies and procedures
- take part and represent the school in marketing and public relations opportunities such as parent information nights, National Catholic Schools Week, Auction Gala, etc.
- attend school and student events, programs, and activities related to assignment
- accept willingly any reasonable special assignment requested by the Principal, Pastor, school governing bodies, or Archdiocese
