Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. An Optometric Technician is able to handle a wide range of duties while using optical equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with the optometrist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone).

- Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave.

- Practice urgency at all times with patient's time, as well as Dr's time and schedule.

- Keeping the Pre-test area, Examination room, and Contact Len's room clean and excellent throughout the day. Tidying up after each patient.

- Properly operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, auto-refractor/ keractometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX, OCT, NCT, topography. Printing out such tests as topography and visual field. Uploading retinal photos to the drive/ Revolution EMR.

- Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.)

- Clean all Doctor's examination equipment and all Pre-test equipment!

- Ensure paperwork is filled out properly on the Lifestyle Questionnaire and inputting any medications in Revolution EMR. Ensuring NCT times are pressures are properly recorded.

- Input all data from the Pre-test into the digital exam on Revolution EMR.

- Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications.

- The knowledge and ability to train new contact lens wearers. (I &R)

- Maintaining stock of trial contact lenses and neatly organizing/ distributing new trial lenses to where they belong.

- Handling referrals, prior authorizations and cover med forms.

- Scheduling post-ops, follow-ups, and future appointments for patients that do not need to buy glasses or contact lenses.

- Re-Ordering trial contact lenses via WVA and processing any sales for patients that are " Contact Lenses Only".

- Troubleshooting patient's glasses and following proper protocols for remakes.

- Dispensing/ Adjusting glasses.

- Understanding and being well versed on Contact Lenses.

- Training patients on the "Insertion and Removal" of the contact lens procedure.

- Communicating effectively with doctors and staff. Paying attention to details such as checking deductible amounts when the patient is in need of an office visit.

- Make sure all copays and fitting fees are paid BEFORE services are rendered.

- The creation, deletion or editing of any Doctor's exam encounter to match the proper reason for the patient's visit.
