Principal Associate, Compensation Analyst

In this position, you will be tasked with performing compensation analysis on essential initiatives, including semi-annual compensation cycles, job benchmarking against market standards, and collaborating with enterprise business leaders and Compensation leaders on diverse compensation initiatives. The perfect candidate for this role will demonstrate robust analytical abilities, problem-solving expertise, effective communication, and strong influencing skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of compensation analysts to enhance compensation analytics by implementing automation and refining processes

• Perform deep analysis on effectiveness and competitiveness of existing compensation programs and model potential impact of alternatives

• Conduct benchmarking and market analysis to determine if pay is appropriately aligned to the external market

• Research and formulate recommendations for enterprise compensation approaches and design

• Support mid-year and year-end compensation cycles through Workday testing, budget reporting, and researching unique cases

• Conduct compensation analysis on large, cross-functional projects across businesses and countries

• Draft plans, educational materials, and communications designed to provide associates, managers, and HR partners with timely and accurate information regarding compensation initiatives

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

• At least 3 years of experience in Compensation or at least 3 years of experience in Finance or at least 3 years of experience in Analytics, or a combination

• At least 2 years of experience in Excel or Google Sheets

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Statistics, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or Human Resources

• 5+ years of experience in Compensation or 5+ years of experience in Finance or 5+ years of experience in Analytics, or a combination

• 3+ years of experience developing data-based stories in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• 3+ years of experience in a client facing or consulting roles

• 3+ years of experience designing, administering, or managing HR or compensation programs across international jurisdictions outside the US

• 2+ years of experience with Workday or Workday Advanced Compensation module

• 2+ years of experience building models and conducting analyses using Excel, Google Sheets, Python, and/or SQL

• Experience with benchmarking tools (BetterComp, Compa) and/or reporting tools (Tableau, QuickSight)

• Experience using AI and/or technology such as Gemini or Claude Code to generate creative ideas, solve problems, troubleshoot common business problems, and translate them into tangible more efficient work products

• Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $131,300 - $149,800 for Prin Assoc, Compensation

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
