Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and develop or recommend treatment plans; conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers
• Perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent), as well as suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Perform arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, oximetry and capnography monitoring, chest physiotherapy, 12-Lead EKG, and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff reporting

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist licensure or certification as required by the state of Ohio
• Demonstrated tracheostomy experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation equipment
• Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in an intensive care or high-acuity respiratory care setting
• Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing policies and procedures including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
• Strong time management skills with the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
