Description Title: Lecturer, CC (Japanese Language) - Fall 2026/Spring 2027/Summer 2027 Hiring Unit: Language Arts Location: Leeward Community College, various locations, HI Date Posted: 04/14/2026 Salary: Minimum $2,053 per credit hour Other Conditions: Part‑time, temporary lecturer positions for Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027. Non‑tenurial and contingent on funding and staffing needs. May include day, evening, or weekend offerings on‑ and off‑campus such as Waianae Moku, local area high schools, or other satellite campuses. Duties and Responsibilities Teach assigned courses in Japanese language and culture. Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress. Work under supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson to integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area. May include instructional assignments involving distance education. Minimum Qualifications Functionally native oral and written fluency in Japanese; ability to communicate in English; plus one of the following: (a) Master’s in Japanese (language or literature); (b) Master’s in Japanese as a Second Language; (c) Master’s in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Japanese; (d) Master’s in Linguistics, ESL, Education, or another language with at least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Japanese literature, Japanese culture, or any combination thereof. All minimum qualifications must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum may be considered on an exception basis. Desirable Qualifications Teaching experience at a community college level. Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly. Familiarity with competency‑based instruction and behavioral objectives.
