The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides care for children with life-threatening illnesses as well as those who are at serious risk for life threatening complications. We care for children from birth to 21 years of age. Patients treated here are experiencing multi-organ system failure, acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, meningitis, septic shock, near drowning, diabetic ketoacidosis, renal and/or hepatic failure, oncology/bone marrow transplant or airway management, among other needs. Major diagnostic categories include respiratory, neurologic, injury/poisoning, trauma, oncologic and infectious disease. The PICU also provides care for patients receiving solid organ transplant as well as neurosurgical, burn, orthopedic, ENT and general pediatric surgical patients. Patients in the PICU are cared for by a multidisciplinary team including pediatric intensivists, RNs and dedicated PICU respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, social workers and child life specialists. We provide family-centered care by identifying and addressing the needs of the patient and family throughout their hospitalization. Our esteemed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit recently received the gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses)! There are only 15 PICUs in the nation with this designation, and our hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus is the only PICU in Colorado that has received this award. Come join this incredible team!! Are you an experienced adult nurse looking to transition to the world of pediatrics? Our Pediatric Nursing Transition to Practice Programs will support you in your journey. Start dates in Fall/early winter 2026. We are currently interviewing candidates who have at least one (1) year of pediatric inpatient and/or ICU experience and those with at least one (1) year of adult ICU experience. Qualifications EDUCATION – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) EXPERIENCE – One year nursing experience. Candidates with pediatric inpatient and/or ICU experience, and/or adult ICU experience strongly preferred. EQUIVALENCY- Applicants with an Associate's Degree in Nursing and who agree to obtain a BSN within three (3) years from their start/hire date may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Entry to Practice Nursing (MEPN) may substitute for a BSN. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S) – Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license or RN license from multistate compact; BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least six (6) months left before expiration is required upon hire. Hours per week : Multiple FTEs available depending on level of relevant experience. Must work 20 hours/week to be eligible for benefits. Shift : Rotating and straight nights available depending on level of relevant experience. Eligible Incentives Up to $4,400 in relocation benefits (100 mi. or greater) for qualifying positions - amount depends on where you're moving from. Salary Information Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Actively anticipates changes in patient outcomes/ unit needs in the provision of care. Care is guided by the Professional Practice Model throughout the continuum of care. Communicate and advocate patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient/family learning needs to the interdisciplinary team. Initiates and anticipates individualized care and education for patients/families across the continuum using an interdisciplinary approach. Teamwork & Collaboration: Function effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care. Applies communication practices that minimize risks across transitions of care. Presents own perspective and supporting evidence in patient care and team discussions. Collaborates with team members in shared decision making. Evidence Based Practice: Integrate best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences and values for delivery of optimal health care. Identifies key concepts of research and evidence-based practice. Participates in structuring the work environment to facilitate integration of new evidence into standards of practice. Recognizes and communicates the need for revision of hospital and departmental policies procedures, practice guidelines, and/or measures for clinical practice evaluation. Recognizes the standard of care provided by the applicable professional organization and /or association. Quality Improvement: Use data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and use improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve the quality and safety of health care systems. Utilizes outcome data at the patient level to make care decisions. Participates in the quality improvement activities and uses quality measures to understand individual and unit performance. Safety: Minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance. Utilizes and discusses policy, procedures, and guidelines to support practice. Communicates observations or concerns related to unsafe situations that pose a risk to patients, families or the health care team. Informatics: Use information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making. Recognizes and applies information and technology of patient and unit outcomes to facilitate communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination. Navigates and documents in the EMR to support patient care. Leadership: Nurses support organizational goals, advance the nursing profession, and enhance professional development by extending their influence to professional and community groups. Works within scope of practice and delegates according to Nurse Practice Act. Participates in professional governance activities.
