Department Overview The Student Health & Wellness Center (SHW) seeks a skilled behavioral health provider who can provide excellent clinical care to OHSU students and postdoctoral fellows across the spectrum of developmental and mental health issues. As with all SHW providers, this position will: Provide generalist mental health services to OHSU students and postdoctoral scholars. Employ interventions that are flexible, individualized, and evidence based. Educate about resources that promote self-awareness, well-being, and personal growth. The mission of SHW is to support Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) students, postdoctoral scholars, pathway scholars, and their adult dependents in personal health and well-being during their academic careers at OHSU. We work to provide exceptional and confidential primary and behavioral health care, outreach programming, and suicide prevention. Function/Duties of Position The OHSU Student Health & Wellness Center is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work and with each other. In this position, your primary role at SHW will be to: Provide culturally affirming and responsive therapy to our diverse student population, including students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, LGBTQQAI+ students, and students of all abilities. This includes diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning, crisis intervention, and counseling using individual, couples, and group modalities. SHW emphasizes short-term therapy but does not have formal session limits. Independently and efficiently manage a robust and complex caseload of clients including some with high acuity, along with timely completion of clinical documentation. There is no insurance billing in this role. Design and implement at least one therapy or support group for students, or other creative ways to reach students outside of the 1:1 counseling model. Serve as part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of mental health professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, LPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs), primary care providers, wellness professionals, and support staff. Foster strong relationships with student leaders, academic leaders, and student support services across OHSU to facilitate outreach presentations, trainings, and education regarding mental health and well-being. Design and deliver outreach programming and psychoeducational presentations on mental health topics relevant to students. Participate in behavioral health team meetings to provide consultation, discuss complex cases, improve access to services, prevent provider burnout, coordinate referrals, and collaborate with primary care colleagues to ensure continuity of care. Required Qualifications Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) or Masters degree (Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker,) Valid license in Oregon or ability to become licensed quickly Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience post-licensure Excellent clinical skills including training and competency in: initial assessment treatment planning individual therapy crisis intervention Experience providing behavioral health services to individuals from one or more diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, disability, or other historically underserved communities. Experience or interest in providing relationship/couples’ therapy Strong skills in written and oral communication Extensive and demonstrated experience and strong commitment to cultural humility and cultural awareness. This includes acknowledging and celebrating differences and communicating respectfully regardless of varying beliefs, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds Ability to design and deliver psychoeducation/outreach talks Training in or exposure to one or more empirically validated treatments, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. A foundation in modern psychodynamic theory is welcomed Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a Student Health or Student Counseling setting Experience in collaborating and coordinating care with inter-professional teams Demonstrated lived experience in Black/African American, Latino/Latinae, American Samoan, Asian, Asian Pacific Islander, or Native American communities. Experience providing educational talks to audiences of varying sizes. Training and experience in group therapy Additional Details This position will be an unclassified faculty position and the applicant will be required to gain a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at OHSU. The hours of employment are negotiated annually with the Behavioral Health Director or their designee. Deviations from the assigned hours may be necessary to ensure adequate care for patients. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday and there is no on-call or weekend work in this role. Clinicians will be asked to work one evening per week (until 7 pm) to accommodate our students’ busy schedules.
