Job Summary:

The Welding Technician II performs advanced welding techniques and fabricates high-quality products by cutting, grinding, and welding using MIG and TIG applications.

Essential Functions:

• ​​Reads and interprets blueprints, build sheets, travelers, or other paperwork dictating product characteristics.
• ​Performs all welding procedures including machine settings, bottles, and necessary fittings.
• ​Sets up and performs MIG and TIG Welding operations.
• ​Uses a variety of hand tools including pneumatic tools such as die grinders and cutting wheels, electric grinders, pry bars, chisels, clamps, and others.
• ​Fabricates products through cutting, grinding, and welding methods.
• ​Utilizes measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, and “string checks” to ensure the product built is within quality tolerances.
• ​Inspects welds for cracks, burn through, and weld spatter.
• ​Grinds and cleans areas where required.
• ​Communicates effectively with team members, other departments, and customers​.
• Maintains welding machines (tip, liner, changes, etc.) and welding vertical, horizontal, and overhead.
• Follows hazardous waste disposal program and fire prevention procedures.
• Comply with all health and safety programs.
• Maintains a neat and clean work area.

​​​Personal Protective Equipment recommended and/or required on production floor:

• ​Safety glasses, or prescription safety glasses that meet ANSI Z 87.1-2020
• ​Hearing Protection that meets ANSI S 12.6-2016
• ​Steel-toed shoes with anti-slip soles that meet ASTM F2413-2018​​

Required Education/Experience/Certifications:

• Welding Certification, completion of a formal apprenticeship, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding experience.
• Experience in maintaining Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)/Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG) welding machines.
• Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
• Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented and consistent.
• Understanding of safety standards and regulations in the automotive industry.
• Communication skills to work effectively with team members, other engineers, and customers.
• Basic computer skills.

Preferred Education/Experience/Certifications:

• ​​(AWS) American Welding Society Certification or equivalent certification.
• ​Welding experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry preferred​.
• Bilingual: English/Spanish.

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%
