Job Overview Are you a skilled machinist with a passion for precision and innovation? We are seeking a talented Manual Machinist to join our team. This role involves setting up and operating manual machines to repair and overhaul large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and related equipment, with a focus on precision and safety. Responsibilities Perform setups of large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and operate large vertical and horizontal lathes to repair and overhaul pumps and compressors. Interpret blueprints/drawings to determine critical dimensions and read measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, etc.). Maintain tolerances as specified, sometimes as low as 0.0005 inches. Select appropriate cutting tools and determine speeds and feeds for proper surface finish. Work overtime as needed, including occasional weekends. Operate forklift and overhead crane safely; adhere to EH&S and QMS processes. Lifting and rigging of heavy components; assist in disassembly, repair, and rebuilding of large pumps. Other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of machine setup and operation, and use of machine controls. 3+ years of experience as a machinist or machine operator. 2+ years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints. 1+ year of experience with king-style boring mills (or VTLs). Experience with tools and equipment such as depth gauges, bore gauges, height gauges, feeler gauges, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, die grinders, drill presses, and overhead lifting equipment. Core Competencies Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to convert between metric and US standard units. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple variables. Use standard problem-solving methods (e.g., 5 Whys) as trained. Effective communication of job duties in one-on-one and small group settings. Preferences HS Diploma or GED preferred; higher education or certificates are a plus. Experience with manual machining such as VTL/boring mill or horizontal lathe (brands like Cincinnati or King). Proven ability to set up and operate manual machines, work centers, and perform tool changes and in-process offset adjustments.
