Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment used to extract, transport, and handle raw materials, including clay and shale, in support of mining operations. This position ensures a consistent supply of raw materials while operating equipment safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, MSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.

Essential Job Functions

• Operate heavy equipment, including loaders, bulldozers, excavators, haul trucks, and other assigned equipment.
• Excavate, transport, stockpile, and load raw materials while maintaining production goals and minimizing downtime.
• Perform pre-operational inspections, routine equipment checks, basic preventive maintenance, fueling, cleaning, and lubrication.
• Report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, spills, or environmental concerns promptly.
• Maintain equipment inspection, maintenance, and operating records as required.
• Follow all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and operating procedures.
• Perform housekeeping duties around equipment and work areas.
• Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment for extended periods using hand and foot controls. Frequent climbing, walking on uneven terrain, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, gripping, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds frequently (100 pounds occasionally with assistance) are required. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while exposed to dust, mud, vibration, noise, and moving equipment. Ability to wear all required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.

Work Environment

Industrial mining and manufacturing environment. Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions. Exposure to dust, dirt, mud, vibration, noise, moving heavy equipment, and uneven terrain. Exposure to elevated temperatures, cold weather, rain, and humidity. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and any additional PPE required for assigned tasks.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience operating heavy equipment in mining, quarry, construction, or industrial environments preferred. Must successfully complete all required MSHA and company training and possess any required operator certifications or licenses.

Schedule

Day Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM. Schedule may vary based on production needs. Overtime, Saturdays, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Safety Requirements

Comply with all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, and operating procedures. Wear required PPE, participate in required safety training, safely operate equipment, and immediately report hazards, incidents, injuries, or equipment concerns.
