Established in 1970, Serving Seniors helps San Diego County’s low-income seniors overcome poverty through whole-person, wraparound support including meals, housing, health and social services, and enrichment activities. We work at numerous sites across the county and in the homes of hundreds of homebound seniors. Our flagship Gary & Mary West Senior Wellness Center in downtown San Diego is unlike any other senior center in the nation. Bringing together a range of supportive services under one roof, the Senior Wellness Center operates 365 days a year and offers two floors of integrated care, including health and social services, housing navigation, enrichment activities, lifelong learning, a Cyber Café and linkage to over 25 onsite direct service partners, including a senior dental center. Last fiscal year, we provided over 1.1 million meals and coordinated services to over 14,000 older adults.

Job Purpose

The Activities and Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for implementing and supporting activities at various sites associated with Serving Seniors. This position will directly support the Activities and Volunteer Team with all aspects of running activities such as educational, music, art, crafts, drama, and exercise programs. The Activities and Volunteer Coordinator will also ensure the proper implementation of the volunteer program.

Requirements

Job duties and Responsibilities :

Volunteer Coordination and Oversight

• Ensure the implementation of the volunteer program: volunteer coordination and communication, including but not limited to hosting/welcoming, onboarding, recruitment, placement, oversight, recognition, and retention of volunteers.
• Responsible for the optimum utilization and maintenance of the volunteer database, VOMO (assisting volunteers and staff with proper usage, pulling reports)
• Represent Serving Seniors at community outreach fairs and volunteer fairs.

Activities Coordination

• Implements scheduled activities at multiple sites throughout San Diego. Tasks include:
• Secure/replenish/inventory, deliver, and setup/breakdown equipment and supplies
• Support participating clients and volunteers
• Troubleshooting and reporting issues as they arise
• Tracks participation using scanners and/or sign-in sheets
• Maintains activity records for monthly reports
• Implements incentives and recruitment campaigns that generate senior client participation.
• Ensures that staff/site managers and clients are aware of all upcoming activities and provided up-to-date information.
• Helps evaluate the popularity and success of current activities and recommends changes as appropriate.
• Ensures that activities and events are sensitive to the cultural and physical needs of clients.
• Creates written communication such as calendars, promotional flyers, emails, etc.

*Supporting the department with special events.

*Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of related experience (coordinating events, hosting activities and volunteers in either a non-profit or public sector setting)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Effective time management and prioritization

• Presentation Skills – the ability to create flyers and visual presentations.

• Effective oral and written communication (includes being an active listener).

• Comfortable with public speaking.

• Comfortable working with older adults.

• Experience in leading, and interacting with, both large and intimate groups.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct oneself in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or tenuous situations.

• Cultural competency – demonstrated ability to have successful interactions and work with diverse populations.

• Ability to effectively manage and prioritize a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities.

• Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Position is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 30 pounds.

• Requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Must maintain personal cell phone for work-related purposes.

• Must have reliable transportation available for work-related purposes, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance.

• Requires the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as job duties may require.

Schedule: Mon - Fri 8am to 5pm

Pay : $24 per hr.
