Senior Data Platform Engineer

Purpose The Onyx Research Data Tech organization is GSK’s research data ecosystem, bringing scientists across GSK together with data and insights to accelerate medical discovery. Onyx is a full‑stack shop that builds a next‑generation metadata‑ and automation‑driven data experience for scientists, engineers, and decision makers, increasing productivity and reducing time spent on data mechanics. We also provide AI/ML and data analysis environments, and aggressively engineer our data at scale as a unified asset. Key Responsibilities Implement end‑to‑end data and scientific solutions using languages such as Python, R, Bash and open‑source tools (Spark, Nextflow, Kubernetes). Use cloud‑vendor provided tools (gcloud CLI, Azure, AWS) and infrastructure‑as‑code for delivery. Write clean code with unit, functional and integration tests and proper documentation. Collaborate with cross‑functional product teams and mentor junior engineers. Own reusable components and architecture to enable scalable, production‑grade data products. Maintain metrics to gauge service impact and iterate in an agile fashion. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience. 8+ years of work experience in data engineering or software development. Proficiency in Python programming. Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with Agile and DevOps practices. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree. Experience building data pipelines with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration frameworks. Knowledge of data modeling, partitioning and performance tuning for analytical workloads. Knowledge of data governance, access controls and data quality practices. Mentoring experience and cross‑functional collaboration. Benefits Annual base salary range: $157,575 – $262,625 (location based). Annual bonus and eligibility for share‑based long‑term incentive program.
