Job Title: Acute Care Sonographer II Profession: Diagnostic Imaging Specialty: Ultrasound Technologist General Abdominal/Obstetric Small Parts Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Thursday 7 PM - 7:30 AM, Saturday & Sunday 9 PM - 9:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12.5 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Certifications: Certification in one advanced category (Fetal Echocardiography, Breast, Pediatrics, or Registered Vascular Technology, Musculoskeletal) preferred Must-Have: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in a minimum of one category (OB/Gyn or Abdomen/Small Parts) American Heart Association BLS certification Two years of post-graduation experience in advanced ultrasound practice Description: The Acute Care Sonographer II provides healthcare services in ultrasound to assist in diagnosis or treatment. This role involves performing ultrasound procedures and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. The Sonographer primarily works independently in a highly complex, acute care inpatient setting. Essential functions include performing ultrasound exams and procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Assisting the physician and other medical staff during exams and procedures is required. Documentation of all information for proper interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams is essential. The role entails performing ancillary duties for the proper distribution, billing, and archival of exams and procedures. Retrieving and reviewing previous studies, reports, written orders, and related health information ensures timely performance and reporting of ultrasound exams. Participation in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the organization's quality indicators is necessary. Key skills include sound judgment, patience, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. The Sonographer exercises tact, discretion, and sensitivity while maintaining confidentiality. Success in this role requires performing essential functions in a busy and stressful environment. The ability to learn current and new computer applications is necessary. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are crucial. Analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing work while meeting multiple deadlines is expected. This role requires regular attendance and may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs. Physical requirements include lifting occasionally up to 50 pounds, maintaining a sitting posture for extended periods, and walking and moving around within the work area. Repetitive bending, twisting, stooping, and reaching above shoulder level are also necessary. Fine finger movements, continuous visual acuity, and cognitive skills to learn and maintain focus are required. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, and infectious diseases is expected in this role. Emotional resilience is necessary for dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
