Dietetic Technician

Primary City/State: Glendale, Arizona Department Name: Culinary & Nutrition-Hosp Shift: Day Job Category: Facilities, Environmental Services, and Culinary Position Summary This position, in collaboration with the Registered Dietitians and members of the healthcare team, provides clinical nutrition care for moderate and low nutritional risk patients and provides nutrition education to patients and families on appropriate meal selections within dietary restrictions to accomplish patient goals. Core Functions Provide nutritional education and instruction on identified diet plans to individual patients, patients in group settings, and patient families based upon physician orders and/or nutritional education needs; may provide nutrition education to the community. Prioritize tasks and use effective time management skills to maintain productivity standards; assist the dietitian in providing an efficient and cost‑effective nutrition care program while meeting service excellence standards. In designated areas, perform timely nutrition assessments and may provide screening using designated criteria to identify patients at nutritional risk and appropriately determine the nutritional status of patients by completing assessments based on nutrition practice guidelines. Provide timely follow‑up and monitoring of patients identified for re‑screening and re‑assessment and refer patients to the dietitian; document pertinent information in the medical records and patient plan of care while meeting requirements of regulatory agencies (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, State and other regulatory agencies). Assist with continuous quality improvement activities and ongoing problem solving and conduct meal rounds as indicated. Make clinical judgment decisions related to patient care and, where appropriate, consult with a dietitian, supervisor, or other members of the healthcare team regarding patient concerns; provide direction to department staff in activities necessary to provide quality nutrition patient care. Minimum Qualifications Associate Degree from an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Dietetic Technician program and successful passing of the DTR exam (Dietetic Technician, Registered) within six months of employment; or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutritional Science; or demonstrated equivalent knowledge as typically obtained with five years acute‑care nutrition experience. Full‑time employment: 8‑hour shifts starting between 6:00a.m.–8:00a.m. for five days per week with alternating weekends and rotating holidays. For employees in behavioral health clinical settings serving children at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS: possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment; an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire. Preferred Qualifications Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR); experience in nutrition within an acute‑care setting is preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
