Pediatric Anesthesiologist

Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group

Job Description

Job Description

Our organization is in search of a fellowship-trained, board-eligible or board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist to become a part of our Division of Pediatric Anesthesia at a leading children's hospital. We are eager to find a collaborative individual who is passionate about teaching residents and fellows, committed to mission-driven healthcare, and desires to work in a supportive environment where colleagues are the highlight of the experience.

The Practice

Our pediatric anesthesiologists provide care for children at a prominent children's hospital, which serves as a Level IV NICU referral center for the Inland Empire. The patient demographic is notably complex, including premature and critically ill neonates, children with congenital disorders, and those with chronic illnesses. We cater to a diverse and often underserved group of children, ranging from healthy to medically complex. The variety of cases includes neonatal and general pediatric surgeries, orthopedics, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, craniofacial and plastic surgeries, as well as a significant volume of non-operating-room anesthesia in radiology, oncology, and procedural suites. Additionally, our facility hosts a well-established congenital heart disease program, allowing pediatric anesthesiologists with the right training and interest to engage in pediatric cardiac procedures. Supervision ratios for residents and CRNAs typically range from 1:1 to 1:2.

The Faculty

Our team of pediatric anesthesiologists, pediatric surgeons, neonatologists, intensivists, and nursing staff forms a close-knit community that collaborates on case planning, outcome reviews, and enjoys each other's company. This is a workplace where individuals look forward to their day because of their peers. New faculty members receive mentorship from seasoned colleagues, and department leadership is approachable and values the input of faculty. We seek physicians who embody this spirit: stepping in to assist a colleague at the end of a long day, offering help when a case deviates from expectations, and taking on unassigned cases proactively.

Teaching

The opportunity to work with residents is a key reason many of us chose an academic career. Pediatric faculty supervise residents during their pediatric rotations, as well as ACGME-accredited pediatric anesthesiology fellows. The quality of our clinical training is reflected in our graduates, who are highly sought after by both private practices and academic institutions. We are looking for faculty who find this work fulfilling and who bring patience and high standards to their teaching.

Advancement

Our academic health system includes an anesthesiology residency, fellowship programs in various specialties, and an active clinical research initiative. Pediatric faculty have a clear academic advancement path with support for promotions, and leadership opportunities are available in areas such as division leadership, fellowship education, pediatric cardiac anesthesia, quality and outcomes, and clinical research.

Compensation

The anticipated total annual compensation ranges from $462,000 to $562,000. The starting base salary is between $450,000 and $520,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. Total compensation may exceed the base salary through variable and productivity-based incentives as outlined in the department's compensation plan. Faculty interested in additional work can increase their earnings through incentivized clinical duties, extra shifts, and on-call responsibilities. Specific details will be discussed during the recruitment process.

Our benefits package includes:

  • Generous retirement contributions
  • Comprehensive insurance options: medical, dental, life, short-term disability, and long-term disability
  • Competitive vacation and sick leave
  • Funding and days for continuing medical education (CME)
  • Relocation assistance (if applicable)
  • Paid malpractice insurance
  • Federal loan repayment options (if eligible)
Mission

Our organization is committed to whole-person care and service, which shapes our department's mission. For over a century, we have served the Inland Empire and communities globally. Our pediatric anesthesiologists provide care to a diverse and often underserved population of children, and faculty interested in global health, pediatric surgical missions, and community outreach will find a supportive environment and like-minded colleagues.

About the Area

Located in Southern California, our community is recognized as the only Blue Zone in the nation, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and dedication to health and wellness. The area is conveniently situated between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains, offering easy access to beaches, skiing, hiking, and various outdoor activities. This growing region boasts a low cost of living and excellent public and private school systems.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited pediatric anesthesiology fellowship and be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology, with subspecialty certification or eligibility in pediatric anesthesiology. Experience or additional training in pediatric cardiac anesthesia is a plus but not mandatory. We welcome candidates at all stages of their careers, from those finishing their fellowship to seasoned pediatric anesthesiologists.

We are a California employer; residency in California is required upon the start date. This position is not eligible for a Conrad 30 waiver. Our organization is an equal opportunity employer.
