Quality Control Inspector

Quality Control Inspector: The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting, testing, and validating industrial control panels to ensure they meet UL 508A requirements, engineering specifications, and company quality standards. This role performs detailed point-to-point checks, visual inspections, torque verification, and functional testing in coordination with Engineering and Production. The QC Inspector documents findings, supports corrective actions, identifies root causes, and drives improvements that enhance build quality, safety, and consistency

• Inspection & Quality Verification
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of control panels, backplates, wiring, labels, and components.
  • Validate wiring accuracy through continuity and point-to-point checks against schematics and layout drawings.
  • Verify torque values, component ratings, conductor sizes, spacing, grounding, and workmanship meet UL 508A.
  • Inspect mechanical layout, drilling/tapping, DIN rail/wire duct placement, and overall panel organization.
• Functional Testing & Validation
  • Assist with or conduct power-up testing following documented procedures.
  • Verify I/O operation, device functionality, polarity, fusing, and protective circuits.
  • Use calibrated instruments (multimeters, torque tools, insulation testers) to validate performance.
• Documentation & NCR Management
  • Record inspection results and update travelers, test sheets, and digital checklists with accuracy.
  • Issue NCRs for deviations in wiring, components, design interpretation, or workmanship.
  • Support root-cause analysis with Engineering and Production; document corrective/preventive actions.
• Compliance & Standards (UL 508A / NEC)
  • Ensure all panels comply with UL 508A requirements for component selection, spacing, grounding, and labeling.
  • Verify components match BOMs, approved alternates, and UL-listed requirements.
  • Support compliance with NEC principles, internal standards, and customer specifications.
• Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
  • Identify systemic quality issues and recommend process improvements or standardization.
  • Work closely with Production Leads, Technicians, and Engineers to clarify drawings or resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in developing checklists, quality criteria, inspection standards, and visual guides.
• Safety, 5S & Test Area Organization
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S principles.
  • Follow electrical safety procedures, LOTO when applicable, and proper PPE use.
  • Ensure test equipment remains calibrated and in good working condition.

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical education in electrical or industrial technology preferred.
• 2-4 years of electrical panel assembly, industrial electrical, or QC inspection experience.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.

• Working knowledge of UL 508A, NEC fundamentals, and industrial control components (PLCs, VFDs, relays, breakers). Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of UL Certification testing are required.

• Proficiency with multimeters, continuity testers, torque tools, and inspection equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly with Engineering, Production, and management.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and digital travelers is a plus.

• Conduct in-process inspections of wiring routing, device mounting, workmanship, and torque.
• Perform point-to-point checks and continuity tests on completed panels.
• Assist with power-up functional testing for I/O, relays, safety circuits, and device operation.

• Fill out inspection checklists, torque logs, and quality records.
• Document NCRs, rework notes, deviations, and test results.

• Provide feedback to Production and Engineering about wiring issues, unclear drawings, or recurring errors.
• Participate in root-cause and corrective action meetings for panel-related defects.

• Confirm component ratings match BOM and UL 508A requirements.
• Validate grounding, labeling, conductor sizing, and spacing meet code and company standards.

• Re-inspect corrected wiring or layout changes to ensure compliance before final approval.
• Sign off completed builds prior to enclosure close-out and shipment.

• Verify calibration status of torque tools, multimeters, insulation testers, and other QC instruments.
• Perform basic functional checks of measurement tools and report equipment needing recalibration or replacement.
• Maintain calibration logs and ensure only approved, in-date tools are used for inspections and testing.

• Keep test benches and inspection areas organized and compliant with 5S.
• Follow electrical safety and PPE procedures, including LOTO when required.
