Safety & Security Officer - The Shelter for Abused Women & Children Location: Naples, Florida | Department: Operations | Reports To: Admin Supportive Systems Director | Employment Type: Fulltime | Non-Exempt | Work Arrangement: Fully On-Site Help Keep The Shelter Safe, Prepared, and Secure. As the Safety & Security Officer, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for The Shelter’s participants, staff, visitors, and facilities. You will monitor security, control access to the Shelter site and building, respond to safety concerns, and support emergency preparedness efforts. Minimum Qualifications - Education, Experience, & Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent experience required. Previous experience in military, law enforcement, or security preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. CPR and First Aid certification preferred; successful completion may be required upon hire. Good computer skills required; experience with computerized security systems preferred. Valid Florida Driver’s License required. Must be able to pass state and national background checks. Successful completion of The Shelter’s Core Competency Training required. Must be available to work a Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule. What You'll Bring Ability to follow established security protocols and respond appropriately to safety concerns. Ability to build positive working relationships with staff, law enforcement, emergency services, vendors, and community partners. Attention to detail when monitoring visitors, cameras, gates, doors, and safety systems. A strong commitment to The Shelter’s mission and sensitivity to the needs of participants and families. Dependability, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Excellent people skills and clear communication skills. High standards of confidentiality, honesty, ethics, and professionalism. Essential Responsibilities Monitor security and fire systems and support a safe environment throughout The Shelter’s facilities. Control access to The Shelter site and building using established visitor screening protocols. Screen visitors at the front gate and building entrance; allow or deny entry according to established procedures. Maintain a daily list of expected and actual visitors. Direct visitors to appropriate areas and notify staff members of visitor arrivals. Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of The Shelter’s security and fire systems, policies, procedures, and protocols. Serve as a liaison between The Shelter, law enforcement, emergency services, security vendors, fire monitoring companies, and community partners regarding safety, security, and disaster preparedness matters. Monitor security cameras from the Security Office and remotely open doors and gates for authorized individuals. Complete routine building checks, including checking doors at the beginning and end of each shift. Walk the facility grounds and transitional cottages weekly as part of safety monitoring. Review security-related incidents and alert appropriate staff of crises or safety concerns. Contact 911 during emergencies according to established protocols. Support hurricane preparedness efforts. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operational needs of The Shelter. Who You Are Is dependable, professional, and calm under pressure.
