Job Category Technology Compensation Overview The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards. Salary Range $120,400.00 - $198,700.00 Target Openings 1 What Is the Opportunity? Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. Individual will complete advanced end-to-end engineering tasks for specific system assignments including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications, consulting with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, managing interaction between systems and other technical support areas, and defining technical requirements and coordinating team resources to solve problems. Design and implement scalable solutions for technical requirements of intermediate complexity. Collaborate across teams to analyze, assess, and contribute to the design of complex solutions, demonstrating strong communication and problem-solving skills. Work autonomously within team guidelines to tackle cutting-edge challenges while contributing to our collaborative environment. Proactively expand your technical knowledge and capabilities through continuous learning opportunities. Contribute to innovation initiatives and technology advancement efforts. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees. Perform other responsibilities as assigned. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? Technical Skills Expert-level proficiency in Python, including experience with modern frameworks and best practices. React UI development skills for creating intuitive and responsive user interfaces. Solid SQL knowledge with hands-on PostgreSQL experience preferred. Practical experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS or Azure services and architecture. Experience with generative AI technologies, including working knowledge of GenAI model strengths and weaknesses, experience implementing LLM applications using frameworks such as LangChain, Strands, or Microsoft Agent Framework, and the ability to integrate AI capabilities into production applications. Working knowledge of Agentic Harness components. Understanding of prompt engineering techniques and best practices. Familiarity with vector databases for semantic search applications. Knowledge of responsible AI principles and appropriate guardrails. Core Competencies Four plus years of software development experience. Delivery - Intermediate delivery skills including the ability to estimate accurate timelines for tasks and deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, contribute to the software design strategy and methodologies used to best meet system requirements, consider and build for many different use cases, avoid over-engineering, ensure automation, deliver complete solutions in small batches, and identify and negotiate important tradeoffs. Domain Expertise - Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including understanding technical concepts necessary to do the job effectively and awareness of industry trends, willingness and concern for business issues and priorities, and in-depth knowledge of immediate systems with some knowledge of adjacent systems. Problem Solving - Strong problem solver who ensures solutions are built for the long term, is able to resolve new issues, recognizes mistakes as learning and teaching opportunities, and consistently breaks down large problems into smaller, more manageable ones. Communication - Strong communicator with the ability to articulate information clearly and concisely with business stakeholders, document work in a clear and easy-to-follow manner, collaborate well with team members as both a mentor and mentee, ask the right clarifying questions on vague requirements, offer and receive constructive feedback effectively, and make space for colleagues to share their thoughts. Leadership - Intermediate leadership skills with the ability to help create a safe environment for others to learn and grow as engineers, and a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying opportunities and tracking team efforts. What is a Must Have? Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience. 4 additional years of software engineering experience.
