Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician assists in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceuticals under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist and in compliance with the Holyoke Medical Center’s mission, policies, procedures, and goals and those of the Pharmacy Department, and all regulatory agencies.

Minimum Requirements:

• Technician Level I Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Refer to the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy Regulations.
• Licenses/Registrations: Current registration as a pharmacy technician or technician trainee with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
• Experience: Health-system pharmacy experience preferred, but not required.
• Technician Level II Education: All requirements for level I and successful completion of the HMC Technician Training program.
• Licenses/Registrations: Current registration as a pharmacy technician with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. An active national certification as a pharmacy technician (e.g.: PTCB).
• Experience: At least 500 hours of experience in a health-system pharmacy.
• Technician Level III Education: All requirements for levels I and II, plus successful completion of the HMC Intravenous Technician Training program.
• Licenses/Registrations: Current registration as a pharmacy technician with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. National certification as a pharmacy technician (e.g.: PTCB).
• Quality Assurance: Participation with and maintenance of negative media fill and fingertip testing at required intervals.
• Experience: At least 500 hours of experience as a Technician Level II.
• Technician Level IV Education: All requirements for prior levels, plus successful completion of the HMC Chemotherapy Technician Training program.
• Licenses/Registrations: Current registration as a pharmacy technician with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. National certification as a pharmacy technician (e.g.: PTCB).
• Quality Assurance: Participation with and maintenance of negative media fill and fingertip testing at required intervals. Participation with and maintenance of health screenings.
• Experience: At least 1000 hours of experience as a Technician Level III.
