Cannabis Operation Controller

Viridian Staffing's client is looking for an experienced Accounting and Finance Leader to become a start-up Controller for a fast-growing Cannabis Operation. The position is based in downtown Los Angeles, California, and on-site work would be required the first couple of months of the assignment, but then could move to a hybrid (3 days in office 2 days out) arrangement. Founded in 2013, Viridian Staffing has led the way as the premier staffing, recruiting, and HR consulting firm solely dedicated to organizations in and supporting the commercial, medical, and industrial cannabis/hemp industry.

As the Controller, you'll be able to use your entrepreneurial spirit and your desire to greatly contribute to the success of the accounting/finance function by wearing multiple hats. This role provides you the opportunity to touch all aspects of Accounting and Finance from the preparation of financial statements and implementing SOPs to ensure financial & regulatory compliance to performing all cost accounting and managing the chart of accounts. As an integral member of the senior leadership team, you will have specific responsibility for the development of financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements, identifying monetary resources, and developing action plans. You will facilitate cross-departmental relationships and will work on special accounting/finance projects to help the company achieve results.

You bring with you experience in accounting software, such as Quickbooks online, that has assisted you in preparing complex journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and in the preparation of annual audits. In previous roles, you have successfully managed and maintained cost, financial, and managerial Accounting systems. You have previous experience leading the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for a licensed cannabis company, including the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements. This is a start-up CFO position, so in addition to your strategic responsibilities, you must also have a 'roll-up-your-sleeves' attitude and be willing to do tasks such as A/P, A/R, collections, payroll, etc.

If you have a bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Accounting or relevant degree (MBA preferred), combined with a minimum of 8 years' senior financial leadership experience, preferably within an early stage growth, entrepreneurial organization, this could be the right position for you. You also must bring with you experience in FP&A. You have a successful track record and expertise in identifying and driving value in an organization, as well as a reputation for being a trusted business advisor who fosters strategic organizational improvement and success. You are known for being an excellent people manager and enjoy coaching and mentoring, while also rolling up your sleeves to show your direct reports how to accomplish objectives. You have the ability to communicate financial analytics in a clear and concise manner and you are highly capable of leading complex negotiations. You have a strong interest in overall business operations, and you are a big-picture thinker who is comfortable and effective working both at a strategic and a tactical level.
