Executive Director, Chemical Biology

Recursion seeks an Executive Director of Chemical Biology to lead strategy and teams bridging multiomic discovery with target identification, including chemical probe design and emerging modalities like targeted protein degradation. This senior scientific leadership role combines hands-on expertise with program management and cross-functional collaboration across biology, computational, and platform teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute chemical biology strategy linking proprietary biology maps to target discovery
- Build, mentor, and manage team of multiomics chemists and chemistry networks
- Establish and oversee internal and external CRO screening, synthesis, and validation campaigns
- Partner with biology, structural biology, and computational teams to align modality selection with validation
- Lead portfolio governance discussions and represent chemical biology in leadership forums
Requirements
- PhD in chemical biology, chemistry, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in chemical biology or drug discovery
- Proven leadership managing multidisciplinary scientific teams
- Expertise in chemical probe design and target identification methods
- Experience with emerging modalities such as protein degradation or molecular glues
- Strong partnership and communication skills across discovery functions
