Instrumentation and Controls EngineerBaltimore, MD Full-timeETCH, INCETCH is a startup commercializing a radically new and efficient decarbonization technology for the simultaneous greenhouse gas-free production of hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas.The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer position at ETCH, INC will maintain and improve current SCADA systems and perform I&C design for systems under development (controls, instrumentation, data collection, electrical, and connectivity). Primary duties are designing and implementing control logic, developing specifications for PLC control and instrumentation, and guiding control and instrumentation testing for ETCH's pilot and scale-up reactor.Other duties include:Design control algorithms, safety loops, and narratives to support testing and general operationAuthor I&C system hardware descriptions including requirements, functional specifications, and I&C system architecture descriptions.Develop troubleshooting plans and calculation and analysis documents to support design reviews.Author factory acceptance test procedures and develop program for instrument checking, calibration, and testing.Collaborate in the technical oversight and direction of external design teams (engineering firms) and internal design teams.Facilitate and assist in the assessment of customer needs and capture requirements and functions of the I&C design for process systems.Recommend process system design modifications and improvements to improve quality of products and/or procedures from a construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and/or decommissioning perspective.Lead reviews and presentations for internal and external design reviews regarding I&C process systems design.Participate in Process Hazards AnalysisDesign systems in compliance with regulatory requirements such as the National Electric CodeImplementation of hardware and software following company policies and procedures such as Management of Change and Lock Out/Tag Out.Flexible work schedule including third shiftQualifications:Minimum 5 years experience in an I&C development roleExperience with industrial chemical plantsExperience with Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, or Emerson hardware and softwareFamiliarity with various communications protocols: Modbus TCP, Serial, etc.Familiarity with industrial power (3 phase, 480V, transformer specifications) is a plusExcellent communication skillsMust be able to work safely and follow safety precautions in industrial environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.)Able to work independently as well as in a team environment toward timely execution of goalsETCH is committed to equal opportunity for its employees.
