Company Overview Methodist Le Bonheur serves the health care needs of the people of Memphis and the Mid‑South. Responsibilities Perform routine, emergency, Doppler, and special (including Contrast Echos and TEE Echos) procedures on patients without assistance from a cardiologist or other physician. Prepare patient position for examination, considering acoustical window, lung interference, patient size, rib interspace distance, and potential congenital anatomical abnormalities. Explain the procedure to patients and answer their questions. Identify and define cardiac abnormalities; extend the scope of the exam as necessary to define abnormal findings. Participate in departmental/hospital committees or group meetings as a member or chairperson. Participate in quality monitoring and evaluation activities. Demonstrate effective customer‑relations skills and promote a positive work environment. Initiate code procedures, administer first‑aid or CPR as indicated in emergency situations. Clean equipment, perform minor repairs, and report need for major repairs. Adhere to hospital policies for time, attendance, and dress code. Be available for on‑call duties and respond within the designated time frame for emergency procedures. Perform other job functions as assigned or requested. Education and Training Requirements Technical Degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Required) or Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography (Preferred). No prior work experience required. Licenses and Certifications HEARTSAVER certification from the American Heart Association (Required). Registered Cardiac Sonographer – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (Required). Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer – Adult Echocardiography from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Preferred). Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer – Pediatric Echocardiography from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Preferred). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Competency in performing echo examinations in the designated area. Ability to perform competently and efficiently in crisis situations. Ability to prepare moderately complex written materials such as patient records. Strong verbal communication with associates, physicians, and other professionals. Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment. Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain workflow control. Flexibility to float to various Methodist Le Bonheur sites or clinics to perform procedures as needed. Physical Demands The position may involve climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. The incumbent must have good balance and coordination and be able to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently. Visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision is required. Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials may occur.
