Machine Learning Engineer, Computer Vision

Salary: $138,905 - 285,982 per year Requirements:

• We look for research engineers or scientists with experience in generative computer vision models, ideally including visual encoders and large language models.
• We require at least 2 years of industry experience in computer vision.
• We expect an M.S. or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• We value strong foundational skills and the ability to clearly explain your approach during interviews, including how you work with AI.
• Nice-to-have: publications at leading machine learning conferences.
• Nice-to-have: experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar tools for development, debugging, testing, and refactoring.
• Nice-to-have: familiarity with LLM-powered tools for documentation search, experiment analysis, SQL or data exploration, and workflow acceleration.

• We prototype new model architectures for Pinterest VLMs, including fine-tuning open-source LLMs to improve visual perception and tool-using capabilities.
• We design and develop evaluation benchmarks tailored to vision-centric abilities such as fashion style recommendations.
• We review research papers, contribute to group discussions, and help shape our visual generative strategy.
• We gather relevant visual training data for Pinterest Canvas to support RLHF, targeted fine-tuning, and related efforts.
• We publish and share our work through conferences, paper submissions, blog posts, and other channels.
• We mentor junior researchers and research interns within Pinterest Labs.
• We collaborate with our core visual pod and product prototyping team to build large-scale generative models for production.
