Counselor

Malvern Treatment Centers is currently seeking a full-time Counselor, to join our Department of Clinical Services! This is a full-time position that is eligible for our full-time benefits package. This position involves working with a dynamic Clinical Services team while supporting those in their journey to recovery from drug and alcohol dependency. This position requires an understanding and experience of working with adults in a trauma-informed care setting.The mission of the Counselor is to counsel patients regarding all aspects of their addiction. He or she must be an active member of the treatment team in the formulation of assessments, treatment plans, diagnostic summaries, progress notes, and continuing care planning. The Counselor will provide supportive individual counseling, conduct group therapy, and review clients at case conferences with other team members. He or she must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to provide these services to clients with chemical dependencies.The ideal candidate MUST have either a Bachelor's or a Master's degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, Human Services, or other related field that includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting . If a candidate’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, his or her written training plan must specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues. He or she must have full certification in this state as an Addictions Counselor and must be licensed in this state if a Registered Nurse (RN). In addition, he or she must be skilled in using Microsoft Office and must be able to function calmly in a crisis situation.RESPONSIBILITIESAdministers assessments, establishes and revises individualized treatment goals, and participates in the formulation of diagnostic summariesDocuments patient progress in a manner that facilitates Utilization Review (UR) and corresponds to goals and objectives in treatment planProvides pertinent information at case conferences and expresses disagreement when necessaryCompletes case conference documentation in a timely mannerAddresses problematic behaviors in patientsConducts group therapy according to stage of group developmentGets involved in projects that improve delivery of treatment and participates in ongoing educational and training processKeeps referral sources updated as to patient progressMaintains family contacts in a timely mannerMaintains communication with patient’s families and facilitates participation in treatmentKeeps personal issues separate from therapeutic process and relationshipsDelivers lectures and workshops in an appropriate mannerInteracts with co-workers in a helpful manner that contributes to high moraleAssumes responsibilities for case management, lectures, and group therapy as required and askedMaintains and sets up aftercare for all patients in a timely manner in case of AMAArrives at scheduled activities on timeCompletes paperwork and documentation on time and in a comprehensive mannerCompletes discharge summaries in a timely mannerPerforms evaluations for potential admissions and refers patients to appropriate level of care based on ASAM criteriaInvolves patients in the treatment planning processCompletes treatment plans in a timely manner and ensures they are comprehensive in natureDetermines appropriate length of stay for patients based on ASAM criteriaFacilitates discharge process in an appropriate mannerMay give direction and provide feedback on the performance of studentsPerforms other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities: May give direction and provide feedback on the performance of student interns.This position is a full time, benefit eligible position. If the practicum did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues, or Current licensure in this Commonwealth as a registered nurse and a degree from an accredited school of nursing and 1 year of counseling experience (minimum of 1820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues, or Full certification as an addictions counselor.Emergency Classification: Non-Essential PersonnelTechnical/Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Proficient.
