Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years in MedSurg/Telemetry License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care - Strong interpersonal communication skills - Ability to work collaboratively - Solid written and oral communication skills - Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels - Experience reading telemetry strips Description: The RN - MedSurg/Tele position involves caring for patients in a medical surgical and telemetry setting. Common patient types and diagnoses include general medicine, diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory conditions, renal problems, wounds or dressing changes, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and lab draws. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:5-6, with a CNA supporting 1:9-10. Skills required for this role include managing chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pump administration. Medication management may include amiodarone, fentanyl PCA, ketamine PCA, dilaudid PCA, and heparin. Support within the department includes assistance from CNAs, a receptionist, a charge nurse, and shared responsibility for phlebotomy with RNs. Additional support teams include a Rapid Response Team, respiratory therapy available 24/7, hospitalists, and intensivists. Telemetry monitoring is centralized, and the equipment used includes an EMR system. The unit culture emphasizes patient-centered care, reliability, and strong teamwork.
