High School Career Connections Advisor
Guided by the MRH High School metaphor, School as Apprenticeship, the College and Career Connections Advisor ensures students have access to personalized, real-world learning experiences that prepare them for success in college, careers, and postsecondary life. This position supports and coordinates college and career readiness, CTE, and the A+ Schools program in alignment with the district strategic plan and state accreditation requirements.
Qualifications/Experience: Bachelor's degree required, School Counseling experience preferred. Must hold and maintain a Missouri teaching certification. Experience with college advising, career planning, and workforce development.
Terms of Employment: Employed for a ten-month period as a certified educator with salary and benefits to be set by the superintendent and Board of Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and continuously improve a college and career readiness framework that aligns with student goals, workforce needs, and postsecondary opportunities.
- Support students in identifying and pursuing postsecondary pathways aligned with academic interests, career goals, technical fields, military service, and workforce opportunities.
- Support the maintenance and implementation of the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) process beginning no later than eighth grade to guide students in career exploration, academic planning, and postsecondary preparation.
- Coordinate and oversee college and career fairs, campus visits, career exploration activities, financial aid workshops, college nights, and parent information sessions.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, employers, workforce development agencies, military branches, community organizations, and business partners to expand student opportunities.
- Coordinate internships, apprenticeships, dual enrollment, job shadowing, externships, service learning, career-connected projects, and industry-recognized credential opportunities.
- Develop and monitor district processes for internships and work-based learning experiences, including student placement, supervision, evaluations, and program outcomes.
- Track, analyze, and report data related to FAFSA completion, postsecondary enrollment, credential attainment, internships, apprenticeships, workforce placement, certifications, and career-connected learning experiences.
- Advise and mentor students individually and in groups regarding career planning, college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, military pathways, workforce opportunities, and postsecondary transitions.
- Assist students and families with college applications, FAFSA completion, scholarship searches, resumes, portfolios, admissions timelines, and financial aid forms.
- Coordinate college representative visits, college entrance testing opportunities, campus tours, and pre-college enrichment experiences.
- Help students identify "best fit" postsecondary options based on interests, goals, academic preparation, and career aspirations.
- Foster a college-going and career-ready culture through workshops, classroom presentations, parent outreach, student advising, and community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with principals, counselors, teachers, and instructional leaders to align coursework, graduation requirements, CTE pathways, ICAPs, and postsecondary goals.
- Support career integration into classroom instruction and collaborate with staff to connect academic learning with workforce skills and career pathways.
- Serve as the district/building A+ Coordinator, ensuring compliance with program requirements, tracking eligibility, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting student participation.
- Maintain and oversee the College and Career Center and support implementation of Missouri Connections, Naviance, ICAP, and other college and career readiness platforms.
- Assist students in selecting, registering for, proctoring, and interpreting college entrance exams, including ACT, ASVAB, and other assessments.
- Coordinate publicity, communication, and outreach efforts to ensure students and families are informed of postsecondary opportunities, timelines, financial aid resources, and career programs.
- Consult with teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and community partners regarding student educational planning and career development needs.
- Support testing coordination, senior events, committee work, and district initiatives related to college and career readiness.
- Serve as liaison for early college students and maintain partnerships with local colleges, universities, technical schools, and workforce organizations.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to A+, CTE, internships, ICAPs, postsecondary outcomes, and career-connected learning opportunities.
- Establish, organize, schedule, and attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities related to college and career readiness programming.
