About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: Teamwork oriented Description: Unit has 18 beds with fast track staffed by mid-level staff and LVNs. Ratios are 1 to 4 unless there is an ICU patient, then it is 1 to 2. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Charge Nurse duties are performed by the shift manager and a resource nurse. Nurse aides are composed of EMTs or aides from other units. Weekend requirement includes 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Holidays include 1 major and 1 minor. Scrub colors must be navy blue, including scrub jackets, undershirts. Telemetry system used is Phillips. Ventilators are available. There are hospitalists or intensivists in-house. Only MDs are used in the emergency room. There is no IV team. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also available 24/7. Shifts are scheduled for 4 weeks, and block scheduling is not permitted. Travelers must have open availability, and PRN schedules will not be accommodated. Floating may occur between two facilities with a 2-hour notice given prior to the shift. Midshift floating could also happen. Floor specific orientation includes 2 shifts at the primary campus and 1 shift at the other campus. Common diagnoses/types of patients seen include correctional patients with officers present. All OB patients are transferred out. There is a higher population of homeless and indigent patients. No cardiac patients are treated; these are stabilized and transferred out. This position must be the primary job of the employee. Candidates should be very teamwork oriented. The unit treats between 85 to 115 patients per day, with an average of 100 patients. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment. Charting is performed using Cerner. BSN is not required. Trauma level is unspecified. Setting is acute care. Division is nursing. Shift notes indicate nights with every other weekend and first to float. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS.
