A 24/7 in‑house call‑center supports scheduled and unscheduled services to fleets anywhere, anytime. Job Summary We are currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic II. This is a dedicated on‑site shop position; emergency roadside repairs are not provided. The Technician handles certified DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light repairs, and additional duties such as aluminum/chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, bodies, and frameworks. The Technician can perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Sr. Shop Trailer Technician or higher and assists senior technicians while continuing to gain advanced mechanical skills. A successful candidate will comply with all company policies and achieve high‑level performance metrics.

DUTIES

Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures. Determine parts required for each job independently and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them. Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist in cleanup at the end of each day. Apply knowledge gained through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform duties; work with, understand, and evaluate technical information related to the job. Work with the Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations effectively. Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication. Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via company‑issued device and/or Karmak application. Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion. Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times. Communicate with the Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Participate in and complete all in‑company required safety training. Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems, including and not limited to aluminum/chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, and trailer steering systems. Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, bodies, and frameworks. Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges. Assist Shop Trailer Technician I with diagnostics. Requirements High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. Candidates may also have a degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED or 5 years of experience in a related field. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties. OEM training and certifications are preferred. Participate in and complete all in‑company required training. Compliance with DOT regulations; must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. Provide a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining to substitute for a DOT physical, or complete a DOT physical if valid medical card has four (4) months or less remaining. Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority and commerce regulations. Safe drivers needed; valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license required and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File. Required Certifications Or Obtained Within 18 Months ASE T8 (PMI) certification. USD 24.23 – 36.35 per hour. Compensation The hourly base rate is $24.23 – $36.35 per hour. The rate may vary within this range based on location and selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may be eligible for additional compensation such as commissions (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or incentive programs. Additional Time Off Minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
