Department Summary The Office of Civil Rights is dedicated to promoting a campus environment where all students, staff, faculty, and administrators can learn, work, and thrive free from discrimination, harassment in accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and related state law and university policy. The Civil Rights Office responds to reports of harassment, discrimination, and related retaliation based on protected status including race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity). The office provides supportive measures, explains reporting options, and oversees and ensures a fair and equitable process for all parties involved in a complaint. In addition to responding to concerns, the Civil Rights Office plays a key role in prevention and education. Position Summary The Civil Rights Office at UCLA seeks a compassionate and detail-oriented Sr. Intake Specialist to serve as the first point of contact for individuals seeking support. This role plays a critical part in ensuring community members feel heard, respected, and supported while helping guide them through the reporting and resolution process. The Sr. Intake Specialist will gather and document reports, provide information about university policies and resources, and coordinate with staff to ensure timely and equitable response to concerns involving discrimination, harassment, and related matters. This position is ideal for a professional who values fairness, confidentiality, and service to a diverse campus community. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications 5+ Years Responsible experience in civil rights compliance, equal opportunity, Title IX, or a closely related field. (Required) Ability to communicate empathetically with discrimination/harassment complainants and respondents. (Required) Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with diverse clientele, including, prominent social and business figures, campus administrators, faculty, staff and students using a high degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion. (Required) Ability to write and speak clearly and present detailed information and analysis. Strong oral and written communication skills. (Required) Ability to design and manage effective administrative processes. (Required) Demonstrated skills and techniques to recognize problem issues and situations and apply resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to implement problem solving to mitigate potential negative effects and follow-through to ensure effective resolution. (Required) Demonstrated ability to work independently with only general direction and to accept equivocal circumstances and take appropriate action where answers to a problem are not readily apparent. (Required) Demonstrated experience leading, or mentoring a team, including the ability to delegate work effectively, provide constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment. (Required) Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment on complex, sensitive, and high-visibility civil rights matters; skill in advising senior leadership and developing institutional strategy and policy. (Required) Broad knowledge of campus administrative structure and functions, policies, procedures and practices (Required) Skill to logically analyze complex situations and data and develop clear and concise reports or recommendations. Proven ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret data and provide appropriate response in implementation of policies and procedures. (Required) Demonstrated skill in alternative dispute resolution in higher education and/or employment. (Required) Demonstrated skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices and/or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns, identify patterns and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
