READS Collaborative seeks substitute school nurses to fill in when needed at either locations of the READS Collaborative public day school programs: READS Academy located at 44 Bedford Street Middleboro, MA 02346 - The READS Academy provides specialized education services to students in grades preschool - 12 within a therapeutic setting. READS Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DHH) School located at 399 Old Colony Rd. Norton, MA 02766 - The READS DHH School provides highly specialized support for students who are Deaf and/or hard-of-hearing.

Qualifications

Valid and current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts. Bachelor's Degree required Minimum of two years of nursing experience in community health or child health Maintain certification in CPR/FA from a recognized provider, i.e. American Heart Association or American Red Cross Preferred Qualifications Experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing Experience with electronic health records systems used in schools Willing to work as a member of a team that includes educators, assistants, school adjustment counselors, administrators and support personnel Familiarity with Massachusetts school health regulations (e.g., medication administration, immunization requirements) Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced school environment

Summary

The READS Collaborative nurses are responsible for daily assessment, nursing and supportive care of all Academy and DHH program students throughout their school day. The READS Collaborative nurse is expected to provide nursing care to the students as directed by physician's order, nursing scope of practice and policy and procedures of READS Health Service Manual, in order to maintain the student's health, well-being and safety while supporting the student's participation in their educational experiences. It is expected that the READS Collaborative nurse will care for the students assigned to them in a manner that supports the function of the classroom or activity in which the student is participating. In order to support the classroom environment, professional conduct is expected. This includes following all READS policies, maintaining a focus on the medical/mental health care and participatory support of the assigned students and keeping non-essential adult conversation to a minimum Reports to: Program Director/Assistant Program Director, Executive Director Performance Responsibilities: Medication administration, may include daily g-tube feeding Treatment of illness and/or injury Diabetic care to students, monitoring blood sugar, calculating carbohydrates at meal time, monitoring and treating for hypo and hyperglycemia Assisting Emergency Medical personnel when called to school for assistance Notifying parent Notifying provider Documentation in electronic health record Working Conditions and Physical Demands: Must demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with staff and students, as well as providers and inter-agencies, parents/guardians to perform all duties as assigned, be physically fit to provide appropriate care for students and monitor in crisis situations of physical restraint as necessary for students up to age 22. (Please note that the DHH program has staff available to assist with ASL interpreting, if needed.)

Terms of Employment

Non-Bargaining Unit Position Provide coverage when needed to the READS Collaborative nursing staff. Salary and Benefits: Daily substitute rate of $280.00 The position does not have benefits
