Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Clerk / Operator

Job Description

This role combines shipping and receiving responsibilities with warehouse operations in a plastics distribution environment. You will handle materials, operate warehouse equipment, manage inventory transactions, and support saw operators by preparing and feeding materials. The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort working in a fast-paced setting, and the ability to communicate effectively with both coworkers and customers.

Responsibilities

• Handle all materials in the warehouse, including lifting items up to 70 lbs on rare occasions, while following safe material-handling practices.
• Perform shipping and receiving duties, including unloading incoming materials, checking shipments, and preparing outbound orders.
• Pick, pull, and pack customer orders accurately and efficiently to meet delivery schedules.
• Operate warehouse equipment, including a high-lift or similar material-handling equipment, to move, store, and retrieve plastic materials.
• Scan inbound and outbound inventory to maintain accurate stock records in the system.
• Feed material to saw operators as needed to keep production flowing smoothly.
• Operate the saw on a relief basis to support saw operators during breaks or peak periods.
• Use a ruler, including reading fractions and decimals, to mark materials accurately for operators when required.
• Work directly with customers face to face, providing professional and courteous customer service.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and safety.
• Collaborate with a small warehouse team of approximately three other associates to meet daily operational goals.
• For candidates with leadership responsibilities: guide and support a team of 34 warehouse associates, helping to coordinate workflow and maintain an efficient operation.

Essential Skills

• Previous shipping and receiving experience, including handling inbound and outbound materials.
• Ability to read a ruler accurately, including fractions and decimals, to mark materials as needed.
• Basic computer skills to support inventory scanning, data entry, and ERP-related tasks.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and organization.
• Ability to interact with customers face to face and provide professional customer service.
• Comfort handling materials and lifting up to 70 lbs on rare occasions.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate warehouse equipment such as high-lift or similar machinery.
• Strong communication skills and an outgoing personality to work effectively with a small team and an energetic supervisor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with UPS shipping processes, including preparing and processing outbound parcels.
• Experience in construction or similar environments involving saw operation.
• Experience operating saws for cutting or processing materials.
• Exposure to billing orders and processing outgoing documentation.
• Prior leadership experience in a warehouse or similar setting, especially leading small teams of 34 people.

Work Environment

The role is based in a combined warehouse, machine shop, and sales office that operates at a fast pace while maintaining a clean and orderly workspace. This division focuses on plastics, so you will work around a wide variety of plastic materials and related equipment. You will use material-handling equipment such as high-lift devices, saws, and scanning tools to manage inventory and prepare orders. The team is small, with approximately three other associates, creating a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere. Standard hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., typically 4045 hours per week, offering a consistent daytime schedule.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
