RN Ambulatory - Wilmington Clinic

Position Summary Reporting to the Director, Ambulatory Services of Martin Luther King, Jr. Los Angeles (MLK-LA) Healthcare Corporation, the Ambulatory Clinical RN leads the health‑care team and provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. MLKCH outpatient clinics and ambulatory services involving one or more specialty disciplines and/or clinic sites demonstrate performance consistent with the Medical Group's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan. Within the assigned area the RN implements, supervises/monitors and maintains clinical practice and quality management standards, and staff competencies/development. The RN remains flexible to changing systems, demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice, and treats co‑workers, patients, families, and all members of the health‑care team with dignity and respect. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a leader of the health‑care team, delegating tasks appropriately and demonstrating accountability. Prioritize, delegate, and supervise work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities. Ensure staff provide highest quality of care in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and federal/state/local requirements. Establish and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with physicians and other departments. Collaborate with nursing and other departments to resolve patient care issues, meet access demands, provide convenient hours of operation, improve cost structure, and develop consistent policies and procedures. Supervise and maintain patient care and quality service standards to meet members’ and internal clients’ expectations. Act as patient advocate and resolve patient care issues. Recommend and evaluate processes to improve systems and patient‑care results across the continuum of care. Monitor budgets, resource allocations, and financial performance, and recommend strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care/service. Supervise use and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and medications. Assist the site Administrator in developing and maintaining the competency of all department staff. Collaborate with physicians, Medical Director, Site Administrator, and Director of Ambulatory Services to develop appropriate levels of patient services and day‑to‑day department operations. Measure and improve internal and external customer satisfaction. Assist in managing and resolving human‑resource, labor‑relations, employee, and department safety, and risk‑management issues. Procure supplies and other materials needed for the medical‑group site at competitive prices and with reputable vendors. Participate in development and implementation of long‑range plans. Assist in resolution of administrative and operational issues, including maintenance of clinic property, computer systems, and installed software applications. Ensure compliance with regulations and standards. Serve as a liaison between the site and external agencies. Assist leadership in developing clinic strategic plans and objectives based on identified patient needs. Maintain strict confidentiality. Take responsibility for selection, hiring, orienting, training, and supervision of all medical‑group staff (non‑provider staff). Resolve problems in administrative and clinical areas. Lead and direct others through the change process. Utilize communication strategies, including chain of command and issue escalation. Mentor, orient, and coach others in unit‑specific operations and patient‑care activities; share responsibility and authority with subordinates and hold them accountable for performance. Demonstrate ability to solve problems with other departments to assist member problem resolution. Monitor patient progress based on the plan, revise the plan based on patient condition and progress evaluation. Ensure care meets standards of practice, develop and complete discharge plans including discharge barriers, and provide patient/family education. Ensure patients understand medication purpose, side effects, and administration instructions. Make appropriate referrals and facilitate patients’ ability to utilize resources. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred). Current California RN license. Current Basic Life Support for Providers, by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS), by the American Heart Association (AHA). Qualifications and Experience Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of clinical experience required; 2 years of clinical experience preferred in a hospital, clinic, home‑care, nursing‑home setting, or health facility within the last 5 years. Excellent observation, verbal, and written communication skills. Highly organized and able to work independently. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds. Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, electronic medical records, and the ability to learn new applications easily.
