Surgery SchedulerSchedule: Full-Time, DaysJob Summary: Under the direct supervision of the R.N. and ultimately to the Nurse Director, performs the receptionist and secretarial duties on a patient care unit while functioning as the focal communications source in the nursing station. Performs activities which support the smooth operation of a patient care unit in accordance with the philosophy and mission of the Nursing Department and the hospital.Duties:Assists in the coordination and communication of activities involved in the scheduling of cases in the OR DepartmentSchedules add on cases (call Anesthesia, Float Circulator, Recovery, Amb Care)Call Administrative Supervisor, if add on is ER patient being admitted, for a roomSchedule outpatient PICC linesSchedule weekend/holiday infusions and injectionsSchedule cases in the DepotSchedule PAT phone callsSchedule cases from printer, fax, email and phone callsDeliver next day Pick SheetsPick up the Pick Sheets and Implant forms from day before from Recovery RoomTake On Call sheet to SwitchboardHang On Call sheet for Administrative SupervisorLet OR crew and Ambulatory Care know of cancellationsPick up charts from Ambulatory Care and take to be sent out to Medical RecordsPick up Endo reports at the end of the week and take to Doctors LoungeUpdate weekly tracking sheetRun SSI reports quarterly and send to surgeonsMail out lens implant tracking cardsFax/Email Allograft tracking sheetsPrepare on call sheets for the next weekPrepare on call calendar for the next monthAnswer phone calls (check voicemail)Respond to emailsPost chargesPlace tickets for OR equipment repairsRun daily surgery scheduleCreate documents and reports as neededOther projects as neededQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent is requiredSecondary education in medical assistant or secretarial skills preferredOne year hospital experience desirableBLS certification required within six months of hireQuality communication skillsPhysical Requirements:Work is medium to heavy demandRequires prolonged periods of standing and walking on dutyLifting and pushing are required when working with patients and moving carts, wheelchairs, stretchers and other types of equipmentHandling, reaching and manual dexterity are required when distributing supplies and equipmentOSHA Exposure Classification:Risk of exposure to communicable diseases
