Research Technician I

Position Overview Research Technician I in the Spatial and Population Ecology of Carnivores (SPEC) Lab, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Temporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) - 6 months with option for extension. Location: Kingsville, Texas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a trail camera grid of approximately 500 cameras, including collecting and redeploying SD cards, maintaining batteries, and relocating cameras during severe weather or prescribed fire. Assist with tracking of collared felids using telemetry when needed. Assist with photo processing and species identification. Assist with other carnivore fieldwork in South Texas, including maintaining box trapping grids for bobcats. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years of related experience. Valid U.S. driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing remote camera grids. Experience working with telemetry. Experience handling wild animals. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work independently in the field within both private and federal lands. Excellent data-management skills and ability to record and organize information. Physical Requirements Ability to lift heavy objects and exert heavy force. Ability to hike several miles a day carrying equipment over uneven terrain with thick vegetation. Ability to work in the field with temperatures greater than 90 F in thick, thornscrub habitat. Other Requirements and Factors This position is security sensitive and will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment. The position requires compliance with state and federal laws, codes, and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules, and procedures. All tasks and responsibilities must be performed safely in compliance with system and university safety requirements. Compensation & Benefits Salary commensurate with experience. Medical insurance - employee only coverage with 0-$30 per month after university contribution.
