Solid Waste Collector Driver A*

The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department is hiring a Solid Waste Collector Driver. The work involves the responsibility for collecting and transporting solid waste and/or recyclable materials from staging areas to processing facilities using semi‑trucks and tractor‑trailers. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Unit Supervisor, with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. This classification requires a CDL Class A driver’s license. Work location: 1607 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC This is a safety‑sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. FMCSA Clearinghouse clearance, Fitness for Duty Assessment, background check, and recent MVR are required. NOTE: the hiring range is on this job posting, NOT on the job specification. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or GED test equivalency and one (1) year of related experience in the operation of large over‑the‑road trucks with trailers, hauling waste material, recycling commodities and other related material. Special Requirements Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) issued by the State of North Carolina. Successful clearance of the FMCSA Clearinghouse and pre‑employment drug testing; employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared. Participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program.
