Principal System Administrator (onsite)

Position Overview Principal System Administrator (Principal Analyst, Information Workplace Services) – Huntsville, AL. Onsite role requiring U.S. citizenship and an active Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance. The role supports classified Windows and Linux enterprise environments, virtual infrastructure, and security compliance in a 24/7/365 mission‑critical setting. What You Will Do Serve as a Principal Systems Administrator for Windows and Linux enterprise environments, responsible for design, implementation, maintenance, patching, and troubleshooting of Windows Server, Windows 11, RHEL 7/8/9, and virtualized infrastructure. Apply Windows and Linux patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activities, including STIG/EVAL, STIG implementation, SCAP/ACAS support, log collection, and coordination with Cyber Security teams to maintain continuous compliance with DoD and regulatory requirements. Design, deploy, and maintain virtual infrastructure using VMware ESXi and vCenter, including VM lifecycle management, host upgrades, performance tuning, and support of critical production workloads. Engineer and sustain enterprise imaging, deployment, and automation solutions, including MECM/SCCM, PXE, Windows imaging, in‑place OS upgrades, and scripted software deployment using PowerShell and automation frameworks. Administer and support core Windows services and integrations: Active Directory, Group Policy, secure system configurations, certificate‑based authentication, and customized user environments. Collaborate across Digital Technology, Engineering, Cyber Security, DevSecOps, Networking, Storage, and Tools teams to resolve complex infrastructure, integration, and compliance challenges with minimal oversight. Provide planned and emergent operational support in a fully onsite DoD closed‑area environment, including occasional after‑hours support and up to 10% travel. Qualifications A university degree or equivalent experience with minimum 5 years of relevant experience, OR an advanced degree with minimum 3 years of experience. Experience administering and securing Windows and RHEL servers. Experience with VMware virtualization. Experience with securing system configurations and system hardening. Experience with PowerShell scripting. Active and in‑scope Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance. U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 certification requirements (CompTIA Security+CE or equivalent) within 6 months of start date. Preferred: Technical SME or primary point of contact for patching, vulnerability remediation, or compliance initiatives; MECM/SCCM, PXE bootstrap, OS imaging, automated deployment frameworks; NetApp storage/HPC environments; enterprise Windows services (AD, GPO, identity integration); cybersecurity tooling (ACAS, SCAP, Splunk, STIG Viewer); DevSecOps environments (Kubernetes, Rancher, artifact repositories); SQL Server clustered configurations; experience with DoD or highly regulated environments.
