Assistant Chief of Police

Job Summary Under general direction of the Chief of Police, serves as a chief administrative officer in the department and manages the daily operations of all Departmental units. Assist the Chief of Police in providing a safe working and learning environment for students, faculty, and visitors that arrive on campus. Responsibilities Supervises, trains, and directs employees. Reviews and assesses the Department Budget. Develops and updates Department Emergency Operation Plans. Campus Safety and Student Security Assessment. Creates partnerships with various City and County agencies, and throughout the community. Assists with the employment process. Develops and implements the Department promotional process. Schedules employees off days and assignments. Assists with Grant and requested items. Participates in New Employee and Student Orientations. Develops and updates Department Manual and Security Standard Operating Procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Compensation and Working Hours Full Time Equivalent: 1.0 Hiring Range: $98,509.22 – $128,061.99 Hours of Work: To Be Announced Security Sensitive Position: Yes Education and Licensing Bachelor’s degree and extensive training and/or specialized advanced certification and/or licensing. Master’s degree preferred. Master Peace Officer certification. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Field Training Officer Certification (FTO). Firearms Instructor Certification. FBI Trilogy Award. TCOLE Instructor. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Federal, State, Local and County laws. Expert knowledge in multiple disciplines; serves as the ultimate subject matter expert in several professional disciplines. Experience and knowledge in various aspects of law enforcement; communication, police administration, forecasting, and planning. Policies, procedures, and practices. Banner and other job-related software systems. Safety guidelines. Supervisory techniques. Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications. Detail oriented. Effective customer service. Problem-solving and decision-making. Multitasking and time management. Strong management. Operating equipment. Coordinating work of others. Strategic planning. Budget management. Planning activities. Leading projects. Both verbal and written communication. Create methods and approaches to handle unique situations. Work independently. Work Experience Ten (10) years’ experience as a Texas licensed commissioned peace officer. A minimum of five (5) years must be served at the next lower rank. Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience at the command level, preferably in a college, university, or law enforcement setting. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, including communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system. Working/Environmental Conditions Limited standing and/or walking. Exposure to risk of accident. Using or carrying equipment. Stoop, bend, or lift. Use hands in force situations. Work irregular hours (days, evenings, and nights) and extended hours as needed or assigned. May require routine travel.
