The Police Department provides continuous services to secure and protect the lives of individuals and properties. The incumbent is responsible for enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth and the rules and regulations of the University and providing senior-level management of initiatives related to enforcing university, municipal, and state ordinances. Reporting directly to, and under the direction of the Police Lieutenant, incumbent:
1. To direct and supervise independent patrols, inspections, and investigations and manage the compilation and preservation of arrest and evidence materials and related reports.
2. Testifies In Judicial proceedings, develops, coordinates, and presents training and educational programs.
3. Plans, organizes and directs law enforcement activities to achieve the department's goals and objectives.
4. Ensures compliance with the department's regulations; handles all Infractions and reports all violations to the superior officer (Lieutenant).
5. Instruct subordinates in properly discharging their duties, including their proficiency, discipline, conduct, and appearance.
6. Responsible for supervising and training officers to meet department standards, preparing work schedules, and ensuring that all officers follow policies and procedures.
7. Supervises, organizes, and coordinates joint law enforcement efforts with other departments; coordinates and conducts special investigations.
8. Review and complete administrative reports, coordinate events/activities and assist with budgeting, particularly regarding the use of additional security personnel and requests to purchase additional equipment. Minimum Qualifications 1. The ability to use computers and monitor various alarm systems.
2. The ability to operate/drive a motor vehicle with a valid operator license.
3. Ability to receive and prioritize complaints.
4. Skilled in keyboarding, with a good command presence and use of the English language and the ability to use discretion and sound judgment when handling a situation.
5. Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
6. Ability to be assigned to work hours/shifts during the day, night, and holidays.
7. High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
8. Considerable experience with using computers and possess clerical skills.
9. Must be able to complete and successfully pass the Department of Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Course and In-Service courses.
10. Three concurrent years as a sworn law enforcement officer with a current law enforcement certification from the Virginia
Department of Criminal Justice Services. 3. Any conviction of Domestic Violence, including simple assault against a domestic or partner, spouse, child, or parent.
4. Any individual falling into the aforementioned criminal history categories before conviction who enters a plea agreement or other sentencing disposition to reduce charges will be disqualified from the entry process.
5. Commission of undetected crimes of a serious or repetitive nature. Traffic Violations
1. Five (5) or more negative points on a Virginia Operator's License or the equivalent for out-of-state licenses and/or two (2) moving violations in any state within the last twelve (12) months.
2. Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or reckless driving or leaving the scene of an accident within the last five (5) years. Drugs
1. Any involvement or use in the sale, distribution, or possession of illegal drugs.
2. Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last five (5) years.
3.
