Full Wage Range (monthly): Step 1 $8,333.33 Step 2 $8,583.33 Step 3 $8,840.83 Step 4 $9,106.06 Step 5 $9,379.24 Step 6 $9,660.62 Step 7 $9,950.44 Hiring Range (monthly): Step 1 $8,333.33 - Step 2 $8,583.33 DOQ SIGN‑ON BONUS: $10,000.00 Sign‑on Bonus, subject to all required taxes, withholdings, and the County Policy, to be paid in two payments. 50% of the bonus will be paid on the next regularly scheduled pay date after your first day of employment with Pend Oreille County; the remaining 50% of the bonus will be paid after one year of County service. Restrictions apply. Benefits include: Subsidized medical insurance for the employee. Optional dental, vision, and medical coverage for dependents. Washington State retirement pension is applicable, plan choices vary. County‑paid benefits such as life insurance, long‑term disability, Employee Assistance Program, and 12 Company‑paid holidays. Job Summary: Represents the State of Washington as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney handling felony cases in Superior or Juvenile Court, including complex and serious criminal matters, and may also prosecute misdemeanors in District Court with a high level of proficiency. Responsible for managing a high-volume caseload efficiently while performing all duties of a DPA I‑Criminal. Work is conducted with professional discretion in accordance with legal standards, ethics, and office guidelines. This is a full‑time, exempt position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. Key Requirements Juris Doctor (ABA‑accredited), Washington State Bar Association membership in good standing, and at least 3 years’ legal practice (criminal trial experience preferred). Comprehensive knowledge of criminal law, legal procedures, court processes, legal research methods, and prosecutorial ethics, including roles and limitations of a prosecutor. Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload efficiently, analyze legal sufficiency, and make sound charging and investigative decisions. Strong communication, trial, and negotiation skills, with the ability to resolve cases appropriately and handle complex, high‑impact matters. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships while treating victims and witnesses fairly and respectfully. Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, maintaining reliability, and using technology to produce legal documents. Commitment to ongoing training and staying current with case law and legislative changes. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency, valid driver’s license, and ability to pass background check. Work Environment: Primarily office and courtroom‑based, Monday–Friday, with possible in‑county travel. Duties must be performed on‑site (no telecommuting).
