Program Associate (PSFG)

The Peace and Security Funders Group (PSFG) is a global network of foundations and individual philanthropists who invest in peace and global security. PSFG is dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of philanthropy by facilitating the exchange of information and ideas; fostering collaboration; and providing educational opportunities for its members. PSFG also encourages new funders to join the field. Finally, PSFG seeks to catalyze a shift in our membership to embrace and implement a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive approach to peace and security funding. Position Description PSFG seeks a full-time Program Associate reporting to our Executive Director in the Washington, D.C. office. The incumbent will support our team across all programs and activities. The ideal candidate must be able to function independently with minimal supervision, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and have the ability to serve as a reliable and flexible member of a small team. In executing their responsibilities, the Program Associate will have the opportunity to gain substantive experience in the dynamic field of peace and security philanthropy and will benefit from close collaboration with a diverse group of funders, philanthropic networks, advocacy organizations, and policymakers. Through our work, PSFG staff gain a deeper understanding of the strategies employed within peace and security philanthropy, the critical stakeholders in this field (both within the United States and abroad), relationships between donors and non-governmental organizations, and pressing issues faced by peace and security practitioners. Primary Responsibilities Administrative Duties (~45%) Coordinate logistics for PSFG meetings, including by collecting and organizing documents; taking notes and producing report-backs; conducting follow-up with participants; and scoping and coordinating with venues and vendors. Manage the Executive Director’s calendar by scheduling and confirming meetings, conference calls, appointments, and travel. Prepare monthly expense reports and assist Executive Director in budget tracking. Manage and maintain PSFG email listservs. Regularly update and maintain the PSFG website. Assist with other administrative tasks, including data entry and proofreading of PSFG materials. Other duties as assigned. Programmatic Duties (~55%) Manage the PSFG Twitter handle on a daily basis and around issue-specific campaigns. Draft grant proposals and reports. Support Program Director with the Peace and Security Funding Index, including by collecting data, copy-editing the Index website, and producing social media campaigns. Support Program Director with the Annual Meeting, including by managing the registration process and website; planning sessions; and producing a report. Support Executive Director with the Federal Policy Briefing, including by drafting invitations and managing registration; and arranging meeting spaces, catering, and prep calls. Dedicate time to advance personal understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Manage PSFG member calls (individual, Working Group, and one-off calls) by drafting agendas; scheduling the calls; taking notes; and conducting any necessary follow-up. Curate and produce PSFG’s quarterly newsletter; and regularly update the Member Directory and Member Handbook. Respond to requests for information and interact with a variety of peace and security stakeholders. Support Program Director in recruiting the Summer Fellow. Represent PSFG at meetings and conferences. Draft speeches, op-eds, and presentations, as requested. Other duties as assigned. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively with PSFG colleagues and a diverse range of stakeholders. Excellent research, editing, and writing skills. Passion for the PSFG vision and mission. Education and Experience 2-3 years of work experience (including internships, work study, or other volunteer experience) in an office environment, preferably at a nonprofit organization. Comfort with numbers and with Microsoft Suite programs, especially Excel and Word. Comfort with social media, especially Twitter. Experience with peace and security issues (through work, volunteer experience, or education) is preferred and a curiosity about peace and security issues is required. S. work authorization is required. Compensation Salary is $42,000 - $47,000, depending on experience. Work is generally performed in PSFG’s Washington, D.C. office, so the Program Associate will be stationary (at a desk) for extended periods of time.
