Executive Director

The client is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and hands-on Executive Director to lead a mission-driven social service organization serving adults living with mental illness and intellectual disabilities in the Pittsburgh region. This role provides chief executive leadership for operations, programs, finances, community partnerships, and long-term growth, with an emphasis on person-centered, community-based services while balancing mission, compliance, and sustainability in a small-agency environment. The Executive Director will advance the organization’s mission by overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring high-quality, compliant services. Responsibilities include partnering with the Board of Directors on organizational priorities and long-range planning; managing finances through budget development, monitoring, forecasting, and stewardship of public and private funding; ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, county, licensing, payer, and contractual requirements; and leading and supporting staff while fostering a healthy workplace culture focused on accountability, inclusion, learning, and retention. The role also promotes person-centered services that support dignity, choice, recovery, community integration, and positive outcomes, and uses data and program outcomes to drive continuous improvement, risk management, and decision-making. The Executive Director will build and maintain partnerships with families, referral sources, county and state agencies, community providers, advocates, and funders, and will support fundraising, grant development, donor relations, and community engagement. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (master’s degree preferred), at least five years of progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit or human services setting related to behavioral health and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities, demonstrated success managing staff and budgets, knowledge of person-centered and community-based services, experience with regulatory compliance and quality improvement, and strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills. Preferred experience may include familiarity with Pennsylvania human services systems, including behavioral health, intellectual disability/autism, Medicaid-funded services, county and state partnerships, licensing, and nonprofit fundraising or development.
