Physician Assistant – Vascular Surgery

Middle Tennessee Vascular Associates is a specialty vascular surgery practice offering an opportunity to work alongside experienced vascular surgeons in the evaluation and treatment of patients with a wide range of vascular conditions.

We are seeking a Physician Assistant who is committed to providing high-quality patient care in a collaborative, fast-paced specialty practice. Our Physician Assistants work closely with our vascular surgeons in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with arterial and venous disease.

This position requires travel between multiple Middle Tennessee Vascular Associates clinic locations based on practice and patient-care needs.

Job Duties

• Obtains complete medical histories and performs physical examinations on new and established patients.
• Reviews patient records, laboratory results, vascular studies, diagnostic testing, and imaging.
• Evaluates patients with a variety of vascular conditions, including peripheral arterial disease, carotid artery disease, venous disease, aneurysmal disease, dialysis access issues, and other vascular conditions.
• Develops and implements patient treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physicians.
• Performs independent patient evaluations and follow-up visits in the clinic setting within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice.
• Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory testing, vascular studies, and diagnostic imaging in accordance with physician protocols and applicable regulations.
• Assists physicians with the management of pre-operative and post-operative patients.
• Provides ongoing monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
• Prescribes and manages medications, including controlled substances when permitted by applicable law, practice policy, and scope of practice.
• Provides patient and family education regarding vascular disease, medications, procedures, risk-factor modification, and pre- and post-operative instructions.
• Evaluates and manages wounds and other vascular-related conditions as appropriate.
• Triages patient phone calls, evaluates clinical concerns, and coordinates with physicians as needed.
• Documents patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with physicians, nurses, vascular technologists, medical assistants, and other members of the clinical team.
• Participates in practice meetings, committees, and quality-improvement initiatives as requested.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintains required professional certifications and affiliations.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA and all applicable practice policies.
• Takes after-hours call when required.
• Travels to and provides patient care at multiple practice locations as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of vascular disease, vascular medicine, and surgical patient care.
• Knowledge of clinical policies, procedures, regulations, and standards related to patient care.
• Strong clinical assessment and medical decision-making skills.
• Ability to obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and interpret clinical findings.
• Ability to review and integrate laboratory results, vascular studies, and diagnostic imaging into patient treatment plans.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with supervising physicians and other members of the clinical team.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to educate patients and families clearly regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced specialty practice.
• Ability and willingness to travel between multiple clinic locations as required.

Education and Licensure

• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
• Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Tennessee, or eligibility to obtain Tennessee licensure, required.

·        Current DEA registration, or eligibility to obtain registration, as applicable.

• Current BLS certification required.

Experience

• Previous experience as a Physician Assistant in vascular surgery, cardiovascular medicine, general surgery, interventional radiology, or a related specialty is preferred.
• New graduates with a strong interest in vascular surgery may be considered depending on qualifications.

Additional Requirements

• Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel between multiple Middle Tennessee Vascular Associates locations.
• Must be able to work collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff across multiple locations.
• Schedule and assigned work location may vary based on patient volumes and practice needs.
