Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan. Possess the ability to perform testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates ability to recognize problems, recommend solutions and respond effectively to assist in an emergent situation. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents. Responsibilities Contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered. Provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. Documents resident interactions and the outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public. Works effectively with professional and supportive personnel as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Counsels residents, family members and/or resident advocate, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician on prevention and treatment plans. Knowledge of resident education principles to develop a self‑care program. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program and hold a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. If required for IV therapy/management, completed a Board approved AASPN program with IV therapy in the curriculum or an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility or completion of a pre‑licensure nursing program with supervised clinical experience across the lifespan. Currently holds an unencumbered LPN license with the State Nursing board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges. Obtains and maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
